Melville Intermediate - Comments Reminders

A reminder to all students of Melville Intermediate that comments on this blog need to include your first name only and your classroom.

Comments should be written in full English not in 'text language' or using 'slang'. If you are not sure ask one of the students in Room Eight and they will be happy to assist you with your comments!

Thanks for your input to our site and if your not sure about something don't forget to ask one of the friendly faces from Room Eight.

  1. I understand your post, but it might be interesting to have the students post a paragraph or two using slang and text speak. It might be an interesting experiment to see if students from different countries can understand each other when they do use slang/text speak.

Can you imagine if the English language was lost to text speak? Would that be easier for foreign language students to learn? I think it could be an interesting project.

  2. Mr C thanks for your comment, as always it is hugely appreciated, this would be the first time that we've ever disagreed I think. I think that its something that I feel passionate about as our students need to look for positive role models even in language. We have impressed upon our students right from the start about always making sure posts are labelled (with first name only) and that there are no gramatical or punctuation errors.

  3. I was thinking more along the lines of the evolution of language as a means of communication. No language stays static, just read a book written in the 19th century. Proper and improper are defined by societies standards and societies change.

On the other hand, I spend lots of time working with my students and their grammar as well.
