Melville Intermediate - Biancas Netball Recount

NETBALL.
The buzzer went off I sprinted into the center third to get the ball. Wheres goal d I thought, oh who cares. The ball got down to our end. I went for the shot for a point I got the goal it in. Anyway at Melville Intermediate School the Sapphires netball team has to get up early in the morning to get down to the Netball courts to play Netball. In our team there are 10 girls their names are Angel, Tiana, Rebekah, Elizabeth, Lauren, Maddy, Avesha, Bria, Hannah and I. We all are a good little team, we work together and we cooperate. We have Netball practice on Mondays and Thursdays after school until 4pm. WOW, thats 3 quarters of an hour. I play half a game at goal shoot and the other half at goal attack. Our coachs name is Mrs De Ward. She is really nice to all of us. Our team is a mixed team with year 8s and year 7s. There are 7 year 7s and 3 year 8s. I am really enjoying Netball so much. Our last game was on the 18th of August.
Every Saturday I have to get up at either half past 6 or 7 oclock in the morning. Not cool at all!! In term 3 the first game we played was against my old team. The score was 45-8 to them. But they are a really good team. For the 2nd game we won. Our score was 15-10. I got 10 out of 11 goals in. The 3rd game we played we had a tie. Our result was 15 all. The 4th game we won. We got 10 goals and the other team got 9 goals. For the 5th game we played we lost against Crawshaw. They got 28 goals and we got 10 goals. For our last game that we played we won, but only by 1 goal though. We played Te Rapa. It was a really tough game to get through but we made it. We are now into the finals, so that means 1 more weekend with getting up early. Netball is a really fun game to play!!

Melville Intermediate - Braes Programming Recount

Programming

On Friday the 12th of August we had options. First we had a talk in room 5 and then went down to the computer room. I started to play around with scratch (a game making program). Nathan and I budded up to make a game. We made these jet pack guys and customized them. Mine was red and had cool shades. Nathan’s was a weird blue green colour with a red hat. We made a background Nathan wanted it to look like frizzle fraz (a game) so I drew some green hills and a clear blue sky with some clouds. The game was missing a lot of things so I made some platforms to land on also I added these spinning spikes to protect a locked door. The game looked cool but it needed points so I made points and a key to unlock the door. So then Nathan and I tested it and it was fantastic. I just need to add more levels and it would be perfect.

Melville Intermediate - Asinates ESOL Recount

    ESOL
On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday I have to Esol. Esol mean that if you from another island or maybe your English is not really good you have to do Esol. Our Esol class have four students altogether and sometimes we are not in there so that mean we absent or we forgot to go. When we get there we have to do works. Sometimes we are doing together our work. We also do the same activity. It is very helpful for us because working together is very fun and we will be able to share what we know. We also read together the story that we are doing. Most time we doing our work by our own. It not very fun because we won’t be able to finish together on time so we can have a little game.
Sometimes I think the teacher think that we are doing better and better. She prepares us harder works. She told us that we have to finish it on time. On Friday we are going to the computers. There are lots of works in there that we need to do. Our teacher is walking around in the room so if we need help she might help us. There is sometimes the teacher come and called us. Guess what to we have to do there. We are doing a easy reading test and it’s really fun.

Melville Intermediate - Literacy Group 1,300 km apart.

Today in Room Five we continued our literacy work for this week, which was giving feedback to authors.  The work that we were reviewing this week was a little special however, it came from the students of St Marys School from Mosgiel, which would take us over 17 hours to drive to (non stop) and is over 1,300 km away from us.

Room Five's Group One was reviewing the work from Ryan and Zack.  Group Two from Hamilton was looking at the work of Callum and Jake.  Group Three from Melville Intermediate looked at the work of Zara and Laura.  Finally Group Four looked at the work published all that distance away last week from Thomas and Josh.  Our students had three key tasks as part of their review of the writing from the students in Room Six.  Once they had read the piece they needed to write how it made them feel, and what emotions they felt from reading it.  Secondly they had to come up with an alternative title for the story that fitted with the writing.  Thirdly the students from Melville Intermediate School needed to write a short paragraph based on the original piece of writing that continued the story on successfully for another paragraph following the style of writing of the original author.

The practical way that this is being done now is in the form of commenting, once the teacher in Hamilton has approved the work, the students from Melville are going to communicate direction with the authors in Mosgiel by leaving a comment on their wonderful class page.

Melville Intermediate - Writing with St Marys Room Six

Today as part of Room Eight's writing program we looked at the work from students from Room Six at St Marys School.  They have published original written narrative work based on the book 'Stray'.  They published it online on their wonderful class page.   We printed off two copies of their work for each of the four literacy groups at Room Five, Melville Intermediate School.   The students spent today viewing and reading the Room Six students narrative.   We then edited their work, reviewed it and responded to by leaving feedback to the students on their page.  This is currently a work in progress - not everyone from Room Five has responded to the Room Six students yet, but we are doing so over the next few school days.  To start viewing the collaboration you can click on the link to St Marys here.

Melville Intermediate - Les Mills Recount

Over the past few weeks team A has been going to the hall to do a programme called Les Mills Fitness. Les Mills Fitness is basically a fitness programme that encourages us kids to get active!
The instructor that stood on the stage and told us what to do, his name was Ivan. First Ivan introduced himself to us then he explained how to play a clapping game for example he would clap a pattern and we would copy it! Then he would get us to do some stretches and explained another game to us. This game was called Directions Ivan would say either right left back and ford and we had to turn in that direction for example Ivan said right so people turned right then Ivan said left so people turned left some people got it wrong and had to sit down this proses kept on going until we had three finalists then Ivan said here are our winners we all gave them a round of applause. After the Les Mills fitness session was over I had to take a minute to catch my breath I can`t wait till next session!  recount written by Nathan H.

Melville Intermediate - Geo Caching Recount

during week 3 of term 3 we started options on Friday in the middle block. I was in geo caching geo caching is when you use a GPS or in this case we were using Google maps to track down some caches/little boxes you use a decrypter and an x and y location .Once you have found the cache you write your name and the date on a sheet of paper .You put the cach back exactly were you found it.
In Geo caching I have found 4 caches and have and have gotten to step four of a multi cach .A multi cache is when you go to different locations and find little slips that have anther location on it .You need to keep doing it until you find the cach .There is also a puzzle cache which is when you have to solve a puzzle to find the cach.
So far this term I have enjoyed it because the mental challenge required to solve the puzzles to find the cache.  Recount by Ryan - Room Five.

Melville Intermediate - Sarah write about One Direction

At the beginning of the year Kylie, Rose and I were all in the same class room 5. Kylie knew a lot of people as did I but Rose hardly knew anyone she only knew me, Joey and Ryan. She decided she would sit next to me and so did Kylie. As we were working I began to hum the tune of the song ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ by One direction. “Hey Sarah what song is that again?” Kylie asked with Eager “It’s What Makes You Beautiful” I cried with joy. “Oh yeah I’ve heard of them before” Rose announced “They’re that boy band, yeah they’re pretty cool”. We all sat there thinking of One direction. The following day’s we sang WMYB our singing became more irritating and the other student’s became more hatred towards us. Week’s past and we had mastered their first and last name’s soon we moved on to their middle name’s which were a bit harder. Boy’s Full name: Harold/Harry Edward Styles, Zain/Zayn Jawaad Malik, Louis William Tomlinson, Niall James Horan, and let’s not forget Liam James Payne. Soon we knew them in and out. Like their whole life was on the back of our hands. Months past and we were like the hated people in school “One direction freak’s” Some would say but that’s nothing compared to what others would call us. That didn’t stop us from loving them though we carried on showing more love for them. Our obsession for them grew bigger and bigger…A few months later in July we yes we got the experience of a life time we got to Skype the one and only ‘ONE DIRECTION’ It was the greatest day of mine Roses, and Kylie’s life. It was a 40 minute chat with them it was just an amaZAYN no phenomiNIALL day. They are just fabuLOUIS guys the most brilLiam a girl could ever meet. Our chat with them was extraordinHARRY!! When we finished we were so happy and ahhh Louis called me Love.  When we went back to school  3 day’s after we Skyped with them we were so happy because we could tell everyone that hated us that we got to Skype with them everyone was gobsmacked. I am a directioner and I love one direction along with my friend’s.

Melville Intermediate - Manish's Basketball Recount

I like basketball get because it is fun to take the ball of they hand and trying to score the ball in the hop. It does matter if you do not got it in at least you are trying. I can take the ball of some people but not all the people. I always try my best to take the ball of people hand. I can do some tricks. But not to much. It is not my first time but I learned how to play properly.

Melville Intermediate - Term Three 2012

Melville Intermediate - Unknown - Jakob + Mr Bell!

On Wednesday 14th August 2012 Melville Intermediate School held their information evening for 2013 students.  As part of the entertainment the Melville Intermediate School Pulse (Waikato Intermediate level Schools Battle of the Bands) winning 'Unknown' performed - however this was in a slightly different format from usual, as it was without Jakob and had the addition of Mr Bell on Drums as a stand in.  The performance was really well received by the audience and once again the students did themselves proud.

Melville Intermediate - Brents Rugby Option Recount

It was week 3 of Term 3 on the 3rd of August and it was the start of new options. I was in Rugby and lots of people were in it. There were about 50 people in it. There were some girls in it. We did the roll and got change into our P.E. gear and then we all went to the field. There was a little problem about the field because it was wet so we used the high school field. We picked the teams and started the game. I was in Mitchell’s team and my position was right wing. We started first and the game start. It was my teams kick off. I was chasing after the ball then I slipped. The grass was so slippery that I slipped on my back. I got back up and saw my team mate got a try. We won the first game and we had to play another team. It was our kick off and they caught the ball and my team mate tackled the person who caught it. We got the ball because of a knock on but then we dropped the ball and lost it. They tapped the ball and my teammate did high tackle. We had to go out and another team had to take over us. After 5 minutes nobody got a try so both teams had to go. We started with the kick and all of us chased after the ball. Someone got the ball and ran so fast he nearly got a try then someone from my team tackled him and we got the ball because the person who was running knocked it on. Then my team mate passed the ball to me and I ran it up to Joey then I got spear tackled and I lost the ball forward. They picked the ball up and passed it to Sam and he got a run away but I ran so fast I just caught up with him. They passed the ball to Vaughn and I tackled him because we can’t get them to get closer to the try line. They passed the ball to Leonard so fast got a try. The option was over and we all went to the changing sheds and then went back to our classes. I liked the option so much because we learnt new thing and I got to tackle people and got to run so fast. Rugby is a really fun sport.

Melville Intermediate - ICT Club Recount

Today I am writing a recount on what we do at the ict club. The ict club members every day at lunch time. What we do at the ict club has mostly do to with computers.  We do stuff like crop pictures and fix old pictures using paint.  We zoom in and open LAN worlds on Minecraft.  Speaking of Minecraft what we have been doing for the past few days, I have been giving everyone it so we can play LAN world on Minecraft together.  In fact I’m working on a super secret project for a LAN world but more on that one for a recount on Minecraft.  We do other stuff too other than Minecraft and cropping pictures and all the stuff we learn we learnt from Mr Chetlleburugh or Mr C for short he’s the expert in the ict suite he help us and he plans everything and if someone is being annoying he’s the one who kicks them out. So as you can see the ict club is really cool. Bye for now.
