Melville Intermediate - Live from the AIMS Games 2011

Our game on Tuesday afternoon against Hastings Intermdiate resulted in a win to Melville 39-25.  In our final pool game, against Chisnallwood Intermediate from Christchurch, Melville put in a strong performance winning the game 71-5.   Wednesday afternoon saw our quarter final, against one of the host schools of the tournament, and third best team after pool play from pool 1, Tauranga Intermediate School.  The game was tight but Melville were able to pull away in the closing stages to win 43-31.   This qualified us for the semi-finals for a third consecutive year, a feat that no other school has managed.   We had to play Sacred Heart College from New Plymouth.  They played exceptional Basketball and applied early pressure to our team, and won convincingly by ten points 41-31.   The team needed to pick their heads up for the 3rd/4th play off against Kaitoa Middle School and did so, defeating them 44-30 to claim third place in New Zealand.

Our warmest congratulations to Murrays Bay Intermediate who defeated Sacred Heart 28-25 to claim the national girls Basketball title.   Following the tournament prize giving both our vice captain Rearna and Kobe from Room Thirteen were named in the 2011 AIMS Basketball tournament team, a very special and deserved honour.

Melville Intermediate - Live from the AIMS Games 2011

Melville Intermediate School has been competing in the 2011 AIMS Games in Tauranga.  We've been competing in Girls Basketball against 11 other school and are one of over a hundred schools and some 4,000 students competing for the week.

Melville Intermediate Girls started the 2011 Campaign strongly with a win against local school Te Kura Kokiri 31-22.   They followed this up with their second game of Monday morning against Kaitoa Middle School 46-36.  Both these games were incredibly close games, with Melville trailing both at half time.

Tuesday morning they played their third game, against North Habour Champions Murrays Bay Intermediate School.  It was another titanic encounter, with only a four point margin seperating the two teams in the fourth quarter.  Murrays Bay proved their class in the end winning 37-27.

Melville Intermediate now take on 2009 finalists Hastings Intermediate in their second pool game today before playing Chisnallwood Intermediate from Christchurch tomorrow.  We'll keep you posted.

Melville Intermediate - Commenting Week Four

This week you are required to leave comments at two locations and to ensure that these comments are left in the correct format. This includes writing your first name only, having the correct URL and making sure the comment is sensible and meets the class requirements.

Some of you have still not completed this task from last week for Hamilton East Primary School, Room 14, remember for the task to be completed you should be able to log onto the class page and view the comment, in the correct format.  If you have not done so you need to scroll down and click on the link to their class page.

This weeks task involves leaving two comments on Bailey Road Schools class page, and then one on one of the students individual blogs.  You will need to have two comments from the two different locations checked off successfully to complete this.  You can choose any of their individual blogs but you need to take
a note of which ones so that you can check this off with Mr Webb, again make sure that the comments follow the correct format.  If you aren't sure check with Mr Webb before you publish.

The Yr 7 girls did really well, 1st came Rianna, 2nd Praise and 3rd came Tigerlilly,
Next up were the yr 7 boys they were really fast, 1st came Aublix, 2nd Jayden,
Now it was time, first we had to stretch and get ready on the starting line Mrs. Bassett was there saying “on your mark get set GO!!!!” I was off , one the first lap Emah-lee was in the lead, I was really tired and I wanted to stop running but I didn’t I kept running.  On the 2nd lap Mia was in the lead then it was Emah-lee then Mia.
Mia came 1st, 2nd came Emah-lee, 3rd came Isla, 4th came me (Hayze), 5th came Eva and 6th came Sita.

We were all very happy especially Isla her family was so proud of her.
Then it was time for the yr 8 boys “On your mark get set GO!!!!! Melville Intermediate - Rock Band Perform Pulse Rehearsal

On Friday night the Melville Intermediate School is competing in Pulse the Waikato Intermediate School Battle of the Bands Competition. On Thursday the band held a rehearsal during singing assembly. Jakob from Room Two wrote this report.

The song the band performed was 'Sun Goes Down'. On the second week of school we were not planning to sing 'Sun Goes Down' but when Jayden played some of the chords then Tara, Leiana and I started singing, Dallas did some smooth beats so we put it all together and its our song.

Melville Intermediate - Ben and Hamish Interview

One of the major new features of Melville Intermediate School is the mural that now hangs proudly outside Room Eighteen.  It was created by Matua Peter who works at Melville Intermediate School, you can see it in the slideshow below this post.  Hamish and Ben from Room Eight wrote this about the process.

In this video we interviewed Matua Peter.  He is the one that made the mural.  We had to write five questions each to ask him about it.   He then answered them and after that we said thank you.
