Melville Intermediate - Maori Language Week 2010

To celebrate Maori Language Week this week we'll be doing some special work in class. In the meantime you can also view some of the examples on this blog created by Room Eight students. You can learn Days of the Week in Maori, learn how to Make Maori Poi in one or two lessons, learn how to play with Rakau Sticks, lesson one or two or watch Mrs Yollis Class from the USA doing it, You can learn how to say a Maori Mihi as a video or a slideshow or watch students from Siberia, in Russia with their Mihi they learnt from us. You can also look at how to count from 1-10, 10-100 or 100 to a thousand in Maori with Arahia from last year. Destyn and Clelveland produced this Haka video tutorial. Another of our Y7 Classrooms Room 14 also combined Matariki, the song poi-e by the Patea Maori Club and Kapahaka inspired by the movie 'Boy' and came up with this video. Finally our school Cultural Performing Arts Group are famous for their Maori cultural displays you can watch some of them by clicking here, here or here!

  2. While we have read and participated in all if not most of these learning experiences, we are still amazed by the ways that you lead us in this area. You are fantastic role models and we enjoy your feedback - many thanks Room 8 - you are amazing. Ms B would love to get snapshots of your class learning, singing waiata, celebrating maori language week... Could you send us some footage for a montage we are trying to put together?
