Melville Intermediate - Maori Raukau Stick Games
This is the first lesson in the series, we've had teachers do this as part of their PD for a staff meeting. This is an easy lesson to start. You can also used rolled up newspaper or magazines taped at the end if you don't have the wooden batons. Use masking tape, not selotape though!
That was incredible. People should take advantages of that coordnation game and use it. I appreciate you all for taking the time to make an impact on the way people communicate with each other. From educational advantages to games, thanks for teaching me something new.
This is NOT as easy it looks! I tried this with my drum sticks, and all I have to say is, OW! I hit myself so many times! I even have a bruise on the right side of my forehead to prove it! You guys are AWSOME at this!!!!!!
We really enjoyed learning from this video. It showed us clearly how to use the rakau. It was slow enough for us to learn from watching it. We followed your instructions and now we just need to keep practicing. Some of us found it easier to learn others. Thanks for sharing your learning. From Room 14

ReplyDeleteWell done Room 8. I will share this with some classes so they can learn rakau as well. You make it look so easy.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Webb and students,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great lesson about Maori Raukau stick games. I like how the steps were spoken so anyone can learn.
My students are on break right now, but I will definitely share this lesson with my students when we are back together.
Thanks!

ReplyDeleteWell Done,

I think this is a great way to make music. This is sort of like druming here in the USA.
ReplyDeletethat is very different of we do in Memphis TN maybe my class should start doing the Raukau stick game
ReplyDeleteThis game is almost similar to a game that girls in Memphis, Tennessee play. I'm interested about what is the object of the game?

That was very impressive! You must have worked hard! I could not stop watching it. I loved the order and rythm.
ReplyDeleteI thought the raukua sticks were very interesting and neat since I have not seen anything like that here in Memphis.
