Melville Intermediate - Questions and Answers for Scotland
Those of you who are regular followers of our class page will know about the recent collaboration with students from Lochardil Primary School in Iverness, Scotland. Jamie is researching Scottish culture for her cultural diversity work that we are doing next term. P6/7 replied to us and replied in depth, and then they posted on their wonderful class page a series of questions for us to answer about New Zealand for them. Their questions were:
What is your national anthem?
What are your traditional foods?
What is the weather like where you live?
What is the story behind your flag?
What time do you start and finish school?
What religions do people follow?
How big is your town?
What’s homework like in your school?
What’s the national plant?
What music do you listen to?
Do you have any traditional dances?
What sports do you do?
What languages do you speak?
Is your town, Hamilton, named after the town Hamilton in Scotland?
Has anyone in your class been to Scotland?
Well today in class Jamie, along with assistance from Kristal and Elizabeth sought some answers to these question from our new friends in Scotland. We talked about an interested way to respond and it was decided to go class to class at Melville Intermeidate and ask different students from different classes (and one deputy principal, thank you Mrs Patterson!) to answer the questions. This video was shot on Friday 25th May 2013.

Melville Intermediate - Inside the School Canteen
This term, which starts tomorrow, we're putting together our Canteen/Tuck Shop material that we collated last term from around New Zealand and the world. The aim of the student councillors who were working on it was to improve the options of students at Melville Intermediate School. For our inspiration we used the classrooms that we are linked with, and Mr Webb used our PLN. What we discovered was that not everyone knew what a 'Canteen' was - in the USA its a water bottle! However we also filmed our own Tuck Shop/Canteen, which is available for our students to buy items for their lunch... and we sent Elizabeth, Jamie and Kristal to film inside. Filmed at Melville Intermediate School at the end of term one. Term two starts tomorrow.

In class Mr. Webb told us we needed to brainstorm video ideas. In 2 minutes I had already thought of an idea and ahd finished up making a mini storyboard for it. A couple days later, my group had done interviews for the video and a little bit of the tour for the canteen. We have also made a video showing Jamie and I serving people in the canteen. :) please enjoy both of them. By the way, once we have finished the whole video we will puut it up on the blog so you can see it all together as one. :)
The second video is of students who serve in the Canteen talking about the experience and what they have done while serving their.

Melville Intermediate - Camp 2013 Down Hill Trolley Racing
This video, filmed by Jamie and Elizabeth from Room Five, is of one of the key activities from the School Camp at the Narrows in Cambridge which was held earlier this month. Students had to navigate a down hill course through the use of a trolley, which was controlled and steered by the driver. Some students found it a challenged, we defiantly had some spills and thrills, but it was another great overall activity from our wonderful time at Camp.

Melville Intermediate - Go Karts at Camp by Jozarn
Shaun taught me how drift and he taught me how to do a donut. It felt cool when I started to drift on the track. I made it into the finals (of the Camp Go Kart competition) where I had to race against Mr Willis. He made me eat his dust. Tane (from Room Six) he made the fastest time and his time was 47 seconds. Nathan M, he was the man at drifting, Liam he also ate Mr Willis dust.
This is Jozarns recount about the Go Karting at the Narrows Camp last week, Jozarn brainstormed and planned his writing, edited it, and this is the published version. The video that features the Go Kart racing was created by footage shot by Jamie and Elizabeth and was edited and put together by Cody, Owen with Nathan H overseeing it. Filmed on location at the Narrows Camp, 4th to the 6th March 2013.

Melville Intermediate - The Strangest Post Ever
Two students who are regular posters on this class page wanted to video themselves doing something special for our online audience. Mr Webb has no idea about what they are up to, but apparently its a scene or a part of a movie which is called 'Pitch Perfect' which Elizabeth, whose hands are the star of this video, has not seen the movie, but a friend of hers has told her all about it. Do you know the scene that they enacting? Have you seen the movie? Is it accurate? Is there anything else that they shold have done differently? This is the strangest post ever on this class page, no question.

Melville Intermediate - Recount Writing Elizabeth
Pitch Black
The Lights Dim down… It
was getting darker and darker… Until… the theatre becomes … Pitch Black!
2 MINUTES EARLIER
My Brother Ryan, My Mum
Trish, my Sister Laura and I were sitting in the Event
cinemas Theatre on the 6th
January about to watch The Rise
of the Guardians. Anyway,
we were sitting in the Theatre seats when suddenly… The LIGHTS DIM DOWN… It was
getting darker and darker by the second until… the theatre becomes… Pitch
Black!
Rise of the Guardians
has 7 main characters: the guardians are: Santa Clause, Sandman, Jack Frost,
Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny the evil Guy is Pitch Black and the little boy who
believes is called Jamie.
Tooth
Fairy is a kind and sensitive
fairy who believes that every tooth is special and that they hold memories. Easter
bunny is a fierce rabbit that
has a boomerang for a weapon and he also makes the eggs by hand. Sandman is a kind guy who cant talk but uses
the sand/dreams, that he puts in the kids minds, to make shapes so people can
see what he is saying. Santa Clause is a man who has an inner circle to
him and a whole lot of outer circles to him. Some of his outer circles are
frightfulness, happiness, astonishment and kindness. His inner circle lets him
see everything… well mostly everything; he can see if children are naughty or
nice and he can see what children want for Christmas.
Jack
Frost is a teenage kid who
can’t remember anything about his past and none of the kids believe in him but
near the end of the movie, the kid called Jamie starts to believe in him. Jamie is a special kid who believes in all
of the guardians, his friends don’t but Jamie knows deep down that they do
exist. Pitch
black, the evil guy, invades
all of Sandy’s (Sandman) dreams and replaces them with nightmares. He to isn’t
believed in until he starts invading the dreams of kids.
Rise of the Guardians
is a funny, entertaining and awesome movie. If it were up to me I would rate it
five stars. After the movie, my family and I Went and got subway for dinner and then headed home. I had
a really fun time and I can’t wait till it comes out on DVD.

Melville Intermediate - Elizabeths Activity Week Recount
Activity Week 2012
Out and About
Activity Week was on the 14th,
15th and 16th of November. There were 10 groups and they
were all different. There was girls stuff, Out and About, Work Hard Play
Harder, Maori arts and crafts and lots more that sounded really fun!
Day ❶:
Day 1 was a BLAST! I had so much fun I couldn’t stop
smiling! In first block, I made Cheese scones and Mrs. Patterson’s Magic
Muffins. The muffins were DELICIOUS and the scones were SCRUMCIOUS. In second
block a lovely lady called Runu, (who comes from Glenview Primary School)
helped us to make these really pretty things that are made out of this
play-dough type of stuff, but it isn’t play-dough because you can bake it. Runu
also taught us to make flower burrats. For lunch we had made Pizza and it was
SOOO yummy! In third block I made al 3 things that were meant to be made the
next day! J They were my T-shirt, my garden tile and a box to put
my Jewelry in.
Day ❷:
In the morning of Day 2, we started
scrapbooking our Activity week books and they really started to look Awesome. J About an hour later we were on the
bus and heading to some Art Galleries. For lunch that day we had McDonalds and
I think that was my Favorite part because when we were eating at our table,
Asinate walked away to get something and she left her coke at our table and
suddenly the cleaning lady came along and took Asinate’s drink and put it in
the bin and Asinate hadn’t of even had a sip yet!J It was Hysterical!
Day ❸:
Day 3 was just as awesome as Day 1
and 2! The first thing we did was go to Waitakaruru Sculpture Park and looked
at all their awesome sculptures. After that we had a 45 minute drive to Te
Aroha where we went for a swim. My favorite part was the Spa Pool It was so
warm and relaxing I was in there for about a quarter of the time!
My Overall comment was those 3 days
were the most SCRUMCIOUS, YUMMY, FUN, FANTASTIC and AWESOME days ever!! JJJ
