Melville Intermediate - CPA at Alphacare
Melville Intermediate CPA and Choir Groups performed at two retirement villages, Hilda Ross and Alpha Care. CPA's part of the show consisted of Kapahaka, Hawaiian, Cook Island and Samoan Dancing. As CPA dancers changed into their fantastic costuming the Choir group sang songs such as The Rose, Ba Ba and Getting Stronger. We also had Karlene who danced with different Hawaiian implements.
For our final number we ended on a Christmas note by singing 'Silent Night'. We saw lots of smiles and tears from our elderly audience. That made us feel really proud and happy that our school took time to go and spread some Christmas Cheer by sharing our talents with them.

Melville Intermediate - Maori Language Week
As were continuing to look back on highlights from Te Reo Maori for Maori Language Week there's three examples that spring to mind. The first is Room Fourteen's Matariki take on 'Boy' this video was made by the students of Room 14 with Whaea Faith earlier this year. It was filmed by Tyler and inspired by the movie "Boy".
Room 14 Matariki Video: Poi E from myles webb on Vimeo.
The next is our collaboration last year with Hackham East Boys School in Adelaide Australia. The students there performed a Haka at the Adelaide Students Choir Festival, they performed with assistance from their tutor but we were able to help in a series of videos that gave some tips and some help with their performance. This video created by Destin and Cleveland was one from the series!
Finally at Melville Intermediate our Cultural Performing Arts Group (CPA) are currently preparing very hard for shows later this term. Our school had a series of shows last year culminating in a trip to Australia, just before they left they performed at our school, one of the highlights of that show was the Kapahaka section you can view this video below:

Melville Intermediate - Where were you in 2004?
During these school holidays one of the tasks that has been done is to go through some of our Cultural Performing Arts Shows form the past and convert them to DVD. One of the biggest surprises is that for the first time ever we managed to find the very first CPA show from 2004! The whole show is over an hour long and is going to be made available from School if anyone wants a copy of it (as a DVD). We believe its the first time that it has been released, and there's some brief highlights from it here! If you would like to order a copy of this show we will be putting details of this in the first school newsletter of Term 2.
