Melville Intermediate - Sport Waikato Ki-o-Rahi
This morning we had special guests from Sport Waikato who taught us how to play Ki-o-Rahi which is a traditional Maori game.
Cody wrote 'we went out in the morning and played Ki o Rahi. They told us how to play and we were off. The ball was going around like a speeding bullet. Change over and its still flying around. Reitu's team scored five and it was all over. Overall it was a fun game'. Codys top five tips for the game were 1. stay inside Te Roto until pass off 2. Run around trying to get the ball 3. get the other teams tags off 4. give to the shooters to score by striking the bin.
Wattana wrote 'Ki-O-Rahi' was actually a new game to me and it was really fun and I hope to play it again. When I started to play I was playing against Taniwha, my team was on offense and the other team was defending. The offensive team had four main throwers to throw the ball at the bin. The attacking team has to get the ball and touch the post then run and score a try inside the red cone.
We found these videos (from Youtube) that exmplained how to play the game further. The first video was created by Sport Waitakere that explains how to play the game.
We also found this example of Ki-O-Rahi being played on horseback! Its been uploaded to Youtube By Sport Northland.

They haven't finished yet because the intention is for the students to look at the feedback they receive from their publishing and their peers, refine their work further and look at re-shooting and re-editing for the final week of school, Filmed on Friday April 12th 2013 by Cody from Room Five, presented by Manish from Room Five this is a tour and explanation of the school Library at Melville Intermediate School.

Melville Intermediate - Camp Recount Writing
This is the recount of Harry from Room Five about his time at the 2013 Melville Intermediate School Camp at the Narrows Camp, Cambridge.
On the fifth of March Rooms 1,2,5 and 6 went to the Narrows Park for our school Camp. First thing we did before anything else was we had to unpack our bags and make our beds. Then we got to settle into our activity groups and then we headed to what activities that we were doing first. I was on the Go Karts, then the swimming pool. After 45 minutes we had lunch and then we went to our next activity, mine was the water slide. The bell rang and our next activity was the Bivoic making - ours wasn't water proof. After that we had a bit of free time.
As soon as the bell rang again our group was the next to go on the Burma trail. Mr Willis lead us to the Burma Trail and he said "follow the rope to make your way back to the camp". After this Burma Trail we went back to have our dinner and dessert. We brushed our teeth and had a shower, about half an hour later we went to sleep.
This footage is of the Water Slide at Narrows Camp filmed by Elizabeth and Jamie and edited and created into a movie by Cody and Nathan H. Filmed from 4th March to 6th March at Narrows Camp.

Melville Intermediate - Go Karts at Camp by Jozarn
Shaun taught me how drift and he taught me how to do a donut. It felt cool when I started to drift on the track. I made it into the finals (of the Camp Go Kart competition) where I had to race against Mr Willis. He made me eat his dust. Tane (from Room Six) he made the fastest time and his time was 47 seconds. Nathan M, he was the man at drifting, Liam he also ate Mr Willis dust.
This is Jozarns recount about the Go Karting at the Narrows Camp last week, Jozarn brainstormed and planned his writing, edited it, and this is the published version. The video that features the Go Kart racing was created by footage shot by Jamie and Elizabeth and was edited and put together by Cody, Owen with Nathan H overseeing it. Filmed on location at the Narrows Camp, 4th to the 6th March 2013.

our Suger Snap Peas then the kale. We took pics of various plants around the garden including Zucceni, Pumpkin, Chilly, Lettuce, Spinich and a whole lot more. We also took pics of the greenhouse and the entrance to the garden. We are also Enviro agents we get together every second Friday and talk about saving the enviroment. Cody and Deighton signing out.
Melville Intermediate School Gardens are a feature of our school. Students are able to grow their own vegetables, each class is able to have a patch and its the location of the school water tank, which collects water from the roof of nearby buildings and is used to flush school toilets and bathrooms, the aim of which is to save the school money with the water rates that we have to pay the city council.
