Melville Intermediate - Nathan H's 2013 Reflections

As part of our review of 2013 students from Room Five are reuired to write a recount that features a 'First Impressions' introduction and a 'Last Impressions' conclusion.  Intermediate School in New Zealand is a Middle School that runs from Y7 to Y8 (usually 11 to 13 years).  This is Nathan H's recount of his two years at Melville Intermediate and two years in Room Five.

Last year we had a thing called activity week where students had a choice to do an activity for 3 days but you must pay. I choose film making with a couple of my friends it cost $20.00. In this activity you had to make a movie we all decided on zombies. In the end our movie failed.

Finally all this preparation has come down to this Melville Intermediate Schools Prep 2013! Our groups name was Sizzling Hot and our main product was sausages. The following people helped contribute in our group Nathan.G, Kane, Damien, Levi and me. Over all we made the most MISMS in the school but we didn’t win anything because we were in a separate competition.

My favourite tech from last year was Wood Work. We made bird houses the reason it is my favourite tech is because I had my friends with me they would help me if I needed help. Plus the machines were fun to use. Also I learnt a lot about different types of wood.

At the start of the year Melville Intermediate had a Syndicate Camp. The first impression I had of the camp it was a bit dirty but then I got used to it; the downside was the Burma trail wasn’t scary! My favourite experience at camp was the canoe ride down the Waikato River.

Last year we had an awesome group of activities called options. Options were like modules but you got to choose what option you were in. I choose ICT which was computer work MR. Webb was the teacher he taught us how to use widgets. Widgets are little mini game on sites I done mine about Pac man and we had a tournament to see who could get the most points I came a close 2nd Levi came 1st.
In the end I hope this school has as much to offer as it can because in 2 years time my little brother will be attending this school so I hope he will get the full experience of Melville Intermediate.

Melville Intermediate - Nathan H's Term One Recount

Hi my name is Nathan I am writing a recount on the first term at Melville Intermediate School 2013. When they called the names for the classrooms I was glad I got Mr.Webb as my teacher again.

As we progressed through the term we had modules and tech. My module was with Whaea Lyndon we practiced hitting the ball with a tennis racket. My tech was food we watched a safety video about how to be safe in the kitchen. When it came to the first P.E session we played indoor cricket. At interval I usually just played soccer on the field I stayed defence because I hurt my leg in indoor cricket. In week 4-5 the Makuhari Junior High School Japanese students came to school and stayed for a week and a half, for the farewell assembly I had to film the whole thing it was fun. Every two weeks we go to the library. I usually issue 2 books and read both of them I recently became a librarian so I issue and return books. Just on Monday we had the Science Road Show I went to it, it was fun there was a skeleton riding a bicycle. I am happy that it is only the first term because I am looking forward to the rest of the year!

Melville Intermediate - Camp Recount Writing

This is the recount of Harry from Room Five about his time at the 2013 Melville Intermediate School Camp at the Narrows Camp, Cambridge.

On the fifth of March Rooms 1,2,5 and 6 went to the Narrows Park for our school Camp.  First thing we did before anything else was we had to unpack our bags and make our beds.  Then we got to settle into our activity groups and then we headed to what activities that we were doing first.  I was on the Go Karts, then the swimming pool.  After 45 minutes we had lunch and then we went to our next activity, mine was the water slide.  The bell rang and our next activity was the Bivoic making - ours wasn't water proof.  After that we had a bit of free time.

As soon as the bell rang again our group was the next to go on the Burma trail.  Mr Willis lead us to the Burma Trail and he said "follow the rope to make your way back to the camp".  After this Burma Trail we went back to have our dinner and dessert.  We brushed our teeth and had a shower, about half an hour later we went to sleep.

This footage is of the Water Slide at Narrows Camp filmed by Elizabeth and Jamie and edited and created into a movie by Cody and Nathan H.  Filmed from 4th March to 6th March at Narrows Camp.

Melville Intermediate - Go Karts at Camp by Jozarn

Shaun taught me how drift and he taught me how to do a donut.  It felt cool when I started to drift on the track.  I made it into the finals (of the Camp Go Kart competition) where I had to race against Mr Willis.  He made me eat his dust.  Tane (from Room Six) he made the fastest time and his time was 47 seconds.  Nathan M, he was the man at drifting, Liam he also ate Mr Willis dust.

This is Jozarns recount about the Go Karting at the Narrows Camp last week, Jozarn brainstormed and planned his writing, edited it, and this is the published  version.  The video that features the Go Kart racing was created by footage shot by Jamie and Elizabeth and was edited and put together by Cody, Owen with Nathan H overseeing it.  Filmed on location at the Narrows Camp, 4th to the 6th March 2013.

Melville Intermediate is an inviro school and as part of that we have a 25000 liter water tank. This water tank was installed last year and has been working great so far .room 5 has being doing work on the water tank and we have worked out that over three years Melville Intermediate will save $3,000 -$6,000 dollars.  Over ten years we will save $17,000-$20,000 dollars and over twenty years we will save $34,000-$54,000. We hope you enjoy the video.

Melville Intermediate - Les Mills Recount

Over the past few weeks team A has been going to the hall to do a programme called Les Mills Fitness. Les Mills Fitness is basically a fitness programme that encourages us kids to get active!
The instructor that stood on the stage and told us what to do, his name was Ivan. First Ivan introduced himself to us then he explained how to play a clapping game for example he would clap a pattern and we would copy it! Then he would get us to do some stretches and explained another game to us. This game was called Directions Ivan would say either right left back and ford and we had to turn in that direction for example Ivan said right so people turned right then Ivan said left so people turned left some people got it wrong and had to sit down this proses kept on going until we had three finalists then Ivan said here are our winners we all gave them a round of applause. After the Les Mills fitness session was over I had to take a minute to catch my breath I can`t wait till next session!  recount written by Nathan H.
