Melville Intermediate - Cultural Dances from CPA

One of groups assoicated with students from Melville Intermediate School is our CPA (Cultural Performing Arts Group).  The group consists of Melville Intermediate School students who are tutored in different cultures who perform during the year and visit other schools.   In 2013 our CPA had an afternoon performance on 27th November 2013 at Melville Intermediate School for the local community.  These highlights from the show were filmed by Nichola from Room Five and edited and processed by Levi and Nathan H.

The Tahitian section was taught by O'Shaan Fletcher which was really fun and it was taught in term 3. The first item was called Fakateretere and the second item was called Te Tamamaohi. It is a dance that expresses your feelings. The Tahitian section is really fun because you will experience the exciting parts of dancing. Written by Hossana.

The Hawaiian section was taught by Karlene Guzzo, it was fun because you get to learn the different types of implements that Hawaiian has and how fun it is to play. the Hawaiian items that we performed were pearly shells, lilo stitch and implements. in the Hawaiian section you will experience how fun it is just like Tahitian.  Written by Hossana from Room Two.

Melville Intermediate - CPA Performance @ MIS

On Wednesday afternoon at school we had a very special afternoon concert.  Our Cultural Performing Arts Group (CPA) held a show in the school hall inviting the general public and students from our school.  We had the school choir, selected soloists and of course the CPA.  This song, also involving Whaea Dianne from Melville Intermediate is Wairua o te puna aroha.

Melville Intermediate - School Haka

Yesterday Melville Intermediates Cultural Performing Arts Group (CPA) held at show at school in the afternoon for students and the community.  During this show the CPA there were performances in Maori (Kapa Haka), Hawaiian, Tahitian, Samoan and Tongan. 

One of the highlights was the Boys Haka.  This Haka was created for the school by Constable Niwha, who is our local community constable.

Melville Intermediate School - CPA @ Hild Ross 12/11/13

Melville Intermediate Schools Cultural Performing Arts Group (CPA) yesterday had their second out of school performance for 2013.   The Melville Intermediate School CPA went to the Hilda Ross Retirement Home and performed for the residents.  These videos are some of the highlights of  the performance filmed by Jamie and Elizabeth from Room Five.

Melville Intermediate - CPA Showcase

The Melville Intermediate School Cultural Performing Arts Group (CPA) held their showcase performance two weeks ago at Melville Intermediate School.  Our school hall had guests for the evening as the School Cultural Group performed items in of culture of Maori, Samoan, Cook Island and Hawaiian origin.  One of the highlights of the evening was the Maori Boys Haka, led by Simon from Room 18 and Sam from Room Fourteen.  Filmed by Mr Webb.

 Papatoetoe Primary School was the only stop until we reached Auckland.   I just couldn't wait until the Powhiri! We sped through our dances and every second we performed for the Papatoetoe students and teachers were tuned in with smiles of excitement.

Melville Intermediate - CPA as part of school show!

All year our famous Cultural Performing Arts Group (CPA) have been rehearsing preparing for their end of year performances.  We have had a strong cultural group that has in the past few years performed throughout the country and in Australia.  This year there are again a series of cultural sections, Maori, Cook Island, Samoan and Hawaiian.   As part of our 2012 School Musical Production 'Clowning Around' the CPA performed the Samoan Sasa in full costume, if you were there on September 6th you would have been in awe of the performance, if not, then you are able to view the highlights of that performance, filmed by Nick from Room Twelve, assisted by Mannish from Room Five.

Melville Intermediate - Saitama City with the CPA

Currently as guests of Melville Intermediate School we are very luck to have a group of students from Saitama City in Japan. Saitama is Hamilton's sister city. We have a group of nearly 60 students who have been here for a week. They have been involved in many activities with the students from Melville Intermediate School. On Friday they had an opportunity to do a cultural exchange with the Melville Intermediate School CPA (Cultural Performing Arts Group).  This footage was filmed by Bianca and Jamie from Room Five on Friday 10th August 2012.

Melville Intermediate - Samoan Sasa

Our Cultural Performing Arts Group has an important role in the School production in week nine. As that's the case our students have been rehearsing furiously to get ready and prepared. To check if they were prepared they were filmed by Room Eight students on Friday to asses! This was filmed by Shania from Room 8 at Melville Intermediate School on 3rd September 2010.

Melville Intermediate - Waikato University

On Thursday 26th August the Cultural Performing Arts Group from Melville Intermediate School had two special shows. The second was of course the Hilda Ross Retirement Show. The first was a special performance at Waikato University. This was for a International Conference of special guests! The students performed a variety of Waiata (Maori Songs) and action songs. Bradyn and Prashant from Room 8 were there and captured this footage.

On Friday the Melville Intermediate School CPA and Hip Hop groups travelled to Te Aroha to perform for Stanley Avenue School on Friday 7th August. This was the Hip Hop groups first actual performance in front of an audience - would it all pay off? Would the students hard work come through in the performance? As you will know if your a regular visitor to this site they are performing in Australia later during the year in term four. For Maori Language Week they performing this footage for our site as part of their rehearsals.

Melville Intermediate - CPA Frankton Markets

On Saturday morning the Melville Intermediate CPA (Cultural Performing Arts) Group performed at the Frankton Markets as a fund-raiser for their trip to Australia later in the year.
