Melville Intermediate - Mihi Instructional Video

In this video, presented by Anahere from Room 8, you will learn all the main parts of a Mihi. Anahere says each phrase in Maori, then explain it in English, the words are on screen while you are watching, with the idea being you can say them as you see them up on the screen. Filmed at Melville Intermediate School by Lana on March 4th 2010.

  1. I have always really enjoyed these videos....I think you really have a unique and interesting culture in New Zealand and I love it when you give these little language lessons in maori.

  2. Anahere you do a great job on your mihi. My class are actually working on their ones at the moment. I have told some of them they will be videoed, I hope they can do it as well as you. Great role model.

  5. Thanks Anahere! I just learned my first ever Maori Mihi. In fact, I hadn't heard of a Mihi until I came to your site. I'm wondering if someone from your class or Mr. Webb could email us some more information about a Mihi. our.ripple.effect@gmail.com Do you introduce who you are before you mention the mountain? How do you say that? Also, is there a thank you or a closing sentence you say. I noticed on all of the videos, it seems the students all end the same way.

I'm going to show these to my class when they get back from their Spring Break (we have a week off in Canada) and we'll see how we do with them. Thanks! :)
