Melville Intermediate: Melville Survivor 2012

Starting soon is our 2012 Episodic Online TV show being created by the students in Room Five, we are filming pre-production at the moment, organising the filming, the props etc and should be releasing the first episode if everything runs according to plan next week, this is Sam's promo shot for the new series.

To put you in the mood for the show, this is one of the 2011 Episodes, entitled "water carry".  This was episode where the students had to balance a cup of water on the outside of their hand and race around a course quicker than the other students.  At this point 'Mia' was the only Y8 student left from her team, all the others had been eliminated, and she was desperate to gain immunity to stop herself from going home... Hosted by Kelly, filmed by Kris, Mitchell and Shania...

Melville Intermediate - Rippa Rugby Game Highlights

On May 18th around ten people from Melville Intermediate School went to Flagstff to play in the Waikato regional Rippa Rugby tournament. When we arrived we were very nervous but we decided that we were still not going to back down. Our first game occurred, the whistle went and we were on our way playing against Putaruru College. After a hard game we lost, but we still held our heads up high. All the games were hard on the day, there were no easy teams. In the final we had to play against Matamata Intermediate School, and although they defeated us, our 'B' team finished as runners up in the competition which means that we make it through to the next stage of the competition, the Tri-Nations finals which is three days after we get back from our Winter Olympics sports camp. This is highlights from the quarter finals. Report by Joey, filming by Veronica from Room Five.

Melville Intermediate - Hip Hop Royal Family Tour

On Thursday 17th May there was a hip hop crew called 'Royal Family' that came to our school. The show started at 9:00am. When the show started they did moves like the robot and douggie. They were going to Las Vegas to represent New Zealand at the world champs. Everyone had a fun time. People were asked to come up on stage and dance with them, Some of the performers were students from Melville Intermediate School (who had been but now went to High School). We hope that they come first in the world champs! Recount by Brent, Room Five, filming by Veronica, Room Five.

Melville Intermediate - Inline Hockey 2012

Melville Intermediate School have an Inline Hockey team that competes at a local arena on Wednesday afternoon/evening.   The team is coached by Mr Dawson from Room Six and its the first time since 2010 that Melville Intermediate has entered the competition.  In Hamilton, New Zealand we never get snow, and don't have any Ice Rinks, so for our students its an opportunity to play a sport that has some similarities to Ice Hockey.  Melville in this match, which took place on Wednesday 16th May, are wearing the Red T-Shirts.

This is part two of the explanation of Maori Bone Carving.  As explained in yesterdays video this is a gift that we've been preparing for our friends from Vonslid School in Denmark.   Filmed by Levi on Tuesday 15th May 2012 in the Melville Intermediate School Workshop.

Melville Intermediate - Bone Carving Explanation

Those of you who have been following our page will know that we have been preparing a very special present for the students from Vonslid School in Denmark.  They sent us a wonderful gift of T-Shirts that were related to Handball,  the national sport of Denmark.  In return we thought long and hard about what we could send them.  As Maori culture is very important to our school, Melville Intermediate employs Matua Peter, and one of his specialities is Bone Carving.  We've been working for a week and a half preparing the gift, working through the stages and this video explains the designs we've created and the process that's been gone through.  This is video one of two, filmed by Levi from Room Five on Tuesday 15th May 2012.

Melville Intermediate - Vs. Maeroa Intermediate

This is the second to last video from our 2012 Girls Rugby Tournament.  It's highlights from our fourth pool game, against Maeroa Intermediate.  Melville were on a roll at this point having won three games in a row, one more would equal the total number of wins from last year.  Standing in Melville's way was a very dangerous Maeroa Intermediate School, who scored an extremely good try early into the match and managed to convert it to take an early lead.   Melville however by this point we really gelling well as a team including showing some strong defence, wait until you see Veronica's ankle tap just after the Maeroa try! Filmed by Veronica from Room Five at Memorial Park, Cambridge on Tuesday 8th May 2012.

Melville Intermediate - Girls Rugby Vs. Tokoroa

The third game for Melville Intermediate at the 2012 Inter Intermediate Girls Rugby Competition was against the 2011 Champions, Tokoroa Intermediate School.  Melville were going into the game in a positive frame of mind with two wins from two, Tokoroa had a win and a loss.   The first half was extremely tight, with neither team able to score so the second half was crucial.  Tokoroa are in the Red, Melville Intermediate are in the Green, Veronica from Room Five is filming and this footage was shot on Tuesday 8th May 2012.

Melville Intermediate - Bone Carving Process

Earlier this year, at the end of Term One, we received a very special present from overseas, from our friends at Vonslid School, in Denmark.  They sent us a package of shirts and information about their city, Kolding, and also about their national sport, Handball.  You can see the original post here.  In return we thought long and hard about what we could send them as a thank you in return and were thinking about something special from New Zealand that we could make.  We are very lucky to have Matua Peter in Room Five at times to assist our learning.  Matua Peter is an artist and carver.  He has been working with a group of Room Five students creating a set of bone carving gifts, which are a traditional Maori gift for Denmark, which we are finishing in class this week.  This slide show gives you a peek at the design process. Melville Intermediate - Girls Rugby Vs. Maeroa

On Tuesday 8th May 2012 the Melville Intermediate School Girls Open Grade Rugby team played against Maeroa Intermediate in the Semi-Final of the 2012 Waikato Girls Inter Intermediate Competition.  This is highlights of that game filmed at Memorial Park, Cambridge by Veronica and Kayla from Room Five.  The game was incredibly close because a place in the 2012 final was at stake for the winner and the half time score was only 5-0 to Melville.  Melville are in the Green with red collars.  Maeroa are in the Blue/Red.

Melville Intermediate - Waikato Inter Girls Rugby 2012

Today in Cambridge at Memorial Park Cambridge Middle School hosted the 2012 Girls Waikato Inter Intermediate Competition.  Melville Intermediate had an Open Grade (over 50kg) team.   They played exceptionally well on the day, and we looking to make the finals for the very first time.

The day started with an impressive 29-0 win against Morrinsville Intermediate.   Fairfield were then defeated 15-5, before Melville defeated last years champions, Tokoroa Intermediate 10-5.  Maeroa Intermediate were then beaten 15-7 before Melville suffered their first loss, against Peachgrove Intermediate 5-27.   Looking to make a statement before the semi-finals Melville then played against Te Awamutu Intermediate, defeating them 10-0.  This led to the Semi-Finals where Melville, who had qualified second, played third qualifiers Maeroa Intermediate.  The game was close at half time, 5-0 to Melville but a strong second half saw Melville victorious 25-0.  That meant Melville had made the final as hoped and took on Peachgrove Intermediate School, the only team to defeat us on the day.  The final was close but a 0-15 score line saw Peachgrove claiming the 2012 Championship leaving Melville to finish second, our best result ever.  Well done to Maia, Praise the entire team who represented the school in a very positive way and had a great day.

Melville Intermediate - Rippa Rugby Hamilton Final 2012

On Wednesday 2nd May 2012 Waikato Rugby held their annual 'Rippa Rugby' Tournament for Schools in the Hamilton area.  Each School was allowed to field two teams in competition and after a full day of games only two teams remained - Melville Intermediate 'A' team - who played Melville Intermediate 'B' team in the final! It was a situation created by Melville Intermediate's two teams suffering only a solitary defeat the entire day.  As the top two teams advance towards the Waikato wide finals coming up in a couple of weeks, so the game was something of a friendly encounter but you wouldn't know it by how close the action was! Melville 'A' were only slight too good for Melville 'B' winning 3-2.  Filmed by Veronica from Room Five, at Swarbrick Park, Hamilton.

Melville Intermediate - Rippa Rugby Vs. Crawshaw School

This video, filmed by Veronica from Room Five is highlights of Melville Intermediate Schools game against fellow Hamilton School Crawshaw School.  For those of you who haven't seen or heard of 'Rippa Rugby' instead of teams having to tackle other players both sets of players have a Velcro belt with two tags on it, one on each hip.  Players from the other team 'rip' one of the tags off to affect a tackle.  This tournament was very special because Melville Intermediate had two teams in the tournament, both of whom made the finals.  Our School teams only lost one pool play game, when Melville Intermediate 'B' were defeated by Crawshaw School, this game!

Melville Intermediate - Rippa Rugby Vs. Fairfield

On Tuesday 2nd May Melville Intermediate 'B' Rippa Rugby team faced Fairfield Intermediate 'A' in the final game for both teams in pool play of the competition.  Melville Intermediate 'B' had bounced back from losing to Crawshaw earlier in the day but were also hoping to win this game to avoid playing Melville Intermediate 'A' in the Semi-Finals! A nail biting game, with high lights here filmed by Veronica from Room Five.  Filmed at Swarbrick Park, Hamilton as part of the Hamilton Schools Rippa Rugby Field Day run by Waikato Rugby.

Melville Intermediate - Hamilton Rippa Rugby 2012

On Wednesday 2nd May 2012 Melville Intermediate competed in the Hamilton 'Rippa Rugby' Tournament held at Swarbrick Park, Dindsdale.   Melville fielded two teams in competition.  Our 'A' Team had an incredibly successful day, defeating Whatawhata School 9-2, St Pius 6-2, Fairfield Intermediate 'B' 10-2 before finally defeating Raglan Area School 10-5.  This put the team into the semi finals where they came up against Fairfield Intermediate 'A'.  The game was tied at 5-5 all and went to sudden death, which was won after a drop off by Melville 6-5.   Which left only the final game...

Melville Intermediate's other team, the 'B' team had a quite successful day too.  They defeated Raglan Area School 10-4, lost to Crawshaw School 6-7, defeated Toku Mapihi Maurea 8-0 and Rhode Street School 6-3.  Their final pool game saw them defeat Fairfield Intermediate 'A' 5-3.  That put them into the Semi-Finals as well against St Pius, who they defeated 6-3.

Which meant that Melville Intermediate School played each other in the final.  And both teams have now qualified for the Waikato wide final which will take place in a fortnights time.  Well done to Mr Keegan and all the team!

Melville Intermediate - Sam's Holiday Recount

When students of Melville Intermediate School returned from their Term Two break, they were asked to write a recount of the past two weeks, this was one of the stand out efforts, a recount written by Sam.

On Friday 20th of April on the last week of the school holidays I got to go to Mega Zone Laser Tag as part of my holiday program and this is what happened.  When I got to my holiday program we got organised and when we were organised and in the vans we went to Sky City in the Middle of Town.  When we got there and found a car parking space we went up to the bowling floor and then the first group  to play laser tag was my group. We went into Mega Zone and we got instructions then we geared up  went into the maze.  We had fifteen seconds to get into the maze and hide.  There were two teams, red and blue.  I was in the red team and each one of the guns had a name on it, mine was eclipse.  The aim of the game was to shoot the other teams base and player.  The siren sounded and the game started.  I ran through the maze and because I had played this game before I knew the maze like the back of my hand, or so I thought.  I was racing through the maze and took a turn and found out I had gone the wrong way.  Then I scouted out the new paths after finding out that they had changed them and then I found the enemy base! But someone from my team found it first so I finished the base off and went to my teams base but while I was finding my way back I found the other team getting ready for an ambush on our base so I stopped them and turned them all off but got turned off myself.  But then I ran to my base where I got reinforcements and we forced blue team back and didn't let them get to our base and then the game over sounded and we exited the maze and hung up our vests and guns.  Then we went into the entrance room to get our scores.  I ranked second in the best player rankings and got 7721 points.  After we got our scores we went and did some bowling and that was the day.  This is the end of this recount and goodbye, and have a nice day.
