Melville Intermediate - Inter Intermediate Drama 2013

The 2013 Waikato Inter Intermediate Drama Day took place this year at Berkley Middle School.  Students from throughout the Waikato were involved in the day in a variety of activities.

This recount is written by Claudia from Room Twelve.

Drama Day
On the 6th of November 8 students went on a trip out to Berkley Normal Middle School for a drama day where we did many activities such as Dance and Story line.

We learnt many new things that day, we learnt that if you are in a group and someone gives an idea to try always be positive about it and give it a go cause you never no what might or might not work, thus also lifting the vibe to that of a happy vibe.

When It came to dance it was very hard and extremely fast, with a lot of complicated moves and watching the dance teacher and some of the students move made dance very daunting but it was also very fun and very funny with the dance teachers odd exercises.

We made many new friends from the schools that also participated in drama day and the other schools brought a lot of talent and confidence but most of them were friendly and warm, people that
Melville will never forget.

We had a great day at drama day and it was an unforgettable experience, we gained knowledge, confidence and talent was shown, I know that what we learned was important and it will stay with us for life.

The video is of one of the workshops from the event and features a number of Melville Intermediate School students.  This was recorded by Mrs Bleakin during the day and edited by Damien, Josh and Drustan from Room Five.

Melville Intermediate - Art Technology 2013

In Art for Technology we are doing 'Fantastic Creatures'.   First before we did anything we had to draw a part mural from 'Where the Wild Things Are'.   Once we had done that we had to make and design out own creature that was 'Fantastic' and they had to made from recycling materials mainly bottles.   An example is that some people have made some dinosaurs and I have made a sea monster.  We had to paper mache them once we had the design so that the model was strong.   The photographs that we took from Art Tech are by Owen and Josh and show the design process.

Melville Intermediate - Matariki Summary by Owen and Josh

Matariki is a constellation of seven stars that represent the Maori New Year which takes place in late May or early June. It occurs just prior to sunrise. In tradition Matariki was a season to celebrate and prepare for the New Year coming.

A lot of the produce of the preparation was given to the god of food Rongo.

The constellation was important for navigating and timing the seasons. Matariki has an English name: Pleiades star cluster.

The constellation Matariki has seven sisters their names are: Electra, Maia, Taygete, Alcyone, Celaeno, Asterope and Merope.

Matariki is featured often you just don’t notice it for instance does anyone know the Subaru logo, well it has seven stars and those stars are the one (seven) and only Matariki stars. There are many paintings of them in museums (and even more not so great attempts).

Melville Intermediate - Revoultion Dance Crew Show May 10th

On the 10th of May 2013 Melville Intermediate were very lucky to have a performance from the Revoultion Dance Crew.  Our students loved the show which included a variety of singing, dancing and performance with a strong anti-bullying message.   These are some of the highlights from the show filmed by Kayla and Nichola and edited b Levi and Josh from Room Five.

Melville Intermediate - Josh's Term One Overview

We did heaps of display work this term. So much that we are running out of wall! Camp was busy it was fun and we did so many activities. As for tests my favourite subjects are reading and spelling Mr Webb said that my spelling test had the best result in the classJ.  The Asttle tests were nerve wracking. The Fonterra science road show was cool as, they did so many things that I never thought possible. They had a Hovercraft! And a skeleton “riding a bike” the skeletons feet were attached to the pedals and there was a pole connecting the skeletons bike to another bike that someone rides and when it is powered it powers the skeletons bike. Somehow they managed to make air go through a brick. For tech I had woodwork and I finished my box first. But Owen was nowhere near finishing on the second to last day but he finished in a nick of time with my help. My second tech is food but I only had one lesson yet. For modules I have had P.E. twice once with Whaea Lyndon and once with Mr Willis. I have done inquiry once and I am now doing food module as well as tech! I have been learning to make videos and upload them on the class blog. That is pretty much this term. I can’t wait for term 2!!!

Melville Intermediate - Fonterra Science Roadshow Bones

Skeleton - Fonterra Science Road Show 2013 from myles webb on Vimeo.

The skeleton riding the bike is actually attached to a bike next to it which someone rides and it makes the skeletons bike move. The skeletons feet are attached to the pedals so the skeleton is moving in the same motion as the person powering it. It is really cool the first time i saw it i went closer because I could not see the person powering it and I though it was creepy.

Melville Intermediate - Fonterra Science Roadshow

Yesterday Melville Intermediate were lucky enough to host the Fonterra Science Roadshow.  This was a wonderful event for the students who attended, and we had Josh from Room Five present with a camera to record some of the events and the amazing activities and experiements that the students were involved in.  One of the activities was the students chance to ride a hovercraft, which Josh filmed on Monday 15th April 2013 in the Melville Intermediate School Hall.

Hovercraft - Fonterra Science Road Show 2013 from myles webb on Vimeo.

The hovercraft looked really cool and had this blue tarpish thing underneath it. It had scooter handlebars and its engine was a modified leafblover attached through a tube to power it. It was high compressed air filling insde the tarpish bottom which made it float.

Melville Intermediate - Leo Club Car Wash

On Tuesday the 9th of April 2013 Our school Leo Club did a carwash to fundraise some money. We washed seven cars at $5 a car so we made $35!!! We did it at lunch time and I thought it was a really good idea because everyone enjoyed washing the cars and it was for a good cause because all the money goes for food for the SPCA (The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Here are some pictures of how much fun we had.
