Melville Intermediate - Clevelands Y8 Camp Photostory

This is Clevelands Photostory of the Melville Intermediate School sY8 Camp at Finlay Park.  Cleveland was a Room 8 student in 2009.  He has taken a collection of photographs from the Y8 Camp and put them into a Photostory, he has created the animations and the music as well.  It took him just over an hour to fully complete the project and did an awesome job.

Melville Intermediate - Girls Rugby Vs. Peachgrove Int.

These highlights are from the Waikato Inter-Intermediate Girls Rugby Finals held at Memorial Park in Cambridge on Tuesday 25th May 2010.   The game was played in high winds and the second half saw heavy rain, despite that Benita did a great job with the filming! Peachgrove managed to score in the second half but by then Melville had taken a 12 point lead with Aylssa scoring and Aaliyah converting following an earlier try by Keisha.  The final score was 12-7 to Melville Intermediate School.  Whaea Hayley, we wish you well.

The final challenge for the Edublogger Challenge is to nominate a classroom for the end of year Edublog Awards.   While we've yet to complete this ourselves we were thrilled to find ourselves nominated by Mr Miller from Califorina, one of the classes that we've been in regular contact with.   You can read the post by clicking on the link here and we'd like to acknowledge Mr Miller for his very kind words.

Filmed by Benita at the tournament.

Melville Intermediate - Boys Haka from Monday Night

This is the footage of the CPA Boys Haka from Monday nights performance at the Founders Theatre.   John did an amazing job of leading it!  Sita from Room 2 wrote this report about the performance.

Students from Melville Intermediate performed on a Monday night.  They were doing the opening ceremony for people receiving citizenship into Hamilton.

All day Friday we learnt new songs and a Haka then practised really hard.  27th April 2010 was the day of the performance and it came so fast.  As we arrived at Founders Theatre we practised before the real performance.  It was a time for the performance and I was really nervous.  My friends Kaea, Shyniah and Raeana were nervous, scared, happy and a little bit cool.  When we did the performance all my nerves dissappeared and it felt awesome.  I was really proud of myself and all of the performers.   I think John did really well leading the Maori Haka.

Melville Intermeidate - Room 8 Speaks Spanish Part Two

This video is in response to the one created by Mrs Yollis classroom in Califorina, USA.  Our students have viewed their Spanish speaking lesson and used it as a model for our classroom to produce a Spanish video using some of the phrases and statements made by her students.

Melville Intermediate - The CPA first 2010 Show

On Tuesday despite the fact that the vast majority of Y8 students were at Camp the Y7 students of the CPA performed at a very important civic ceremony at the Founders Theatre in Hamilton.   These are some highlights.

Melville Intermediate - Online Learning Task

This is our current online learning task for students from Room 8. We've been over all these instructions in class but this will be the link to them online.  Students from Room Eight have a deadline of two and a half weeks to produce an online learning video.
Success Criteria:
The video must include a lesson from another blog that has been created by students.  You need to take part in the activity or replicate the activity.  You need to then arrange for a class film crew to film you taking part in that activity.  Finally once its all completed then you need to notify the blog or class webpage where you found the lesson in the first place what you've done.  You can also contact them during the process to check what you are doing is correct or ask questions.   Remember that this is due in two and a half weeks from today.  Good luck Room 8 and don't forget to ask any questions if you have any.

Melville Intermediate - Mrs Yollis Class teaches Room 8 Spanish!

Today in the classroom we spent a considerable amount of time viewing the following video form Mrs Yollis's wonderful classroom site in California, USA.  We are going to be looking at examples of online things that we can learn by looking at other classrooms, and Mrs Yollis has the sort of blog that you can learn so many things about.  The original video which Mrs Yollis' classroom produced and we used as a guide for the lesson was this:

Let's Learn Spanish! from mrsyollis on Vimeo.
We really enjoyed watching it (and I think that Mrs Yollis and her class showed so much expression, it helped us enjoy it!). So while we had PE last block we produced this video of some of our Room 8 students speaking Spanish...

Melville Intermediate - Icons of Hamilton!

Room Eight is currently looking at New Zealand Icons for our Unit Studies and specifically Hamilton and Waikato, New Zealand Icons! One of our favourites at moment is this site which has a link about the statue of Riff Raff, one of the characters from the Rocky Horror Picture Show! There's a link to the live Webcam in the main street of Hamilton, by the statue and we've been watching it from time to time developing our inference skills.  You can click on the Riff Raff Website here, or go directly to the camera (which is live streaming) by clicking here.  The camera takes still and re takes a picture every few seconds!

Melville Intermediate- Y7 Camp 2010: Waterslide

If there was one activity that the students from Melville Intermediate School seemed to enjoy more than anything else at the Y7 Camp it was the Water-slide! We had a huge tarpaulin sheet on the ground, a running hose and dish washing detergent was poured down it.  It was a chance for the students to unwind after a full days of activities! Mr Webb bravely took the Camera and recorded from the foot of the hill as the students made the trip to the bottom...

Over the last few weeks our students have been communicating and interacting with the Ripple Effect in Canada.  They had a series of questions to ask us about New Zealand that we couldn't answer during the course of our latest Sykpe Session.  Jahnard came up with this slideshow to answer. Melville Intermediate - Camp Ruatuna 2010 Video

On Friday Room 6, Room 8 and Room 14 went to Camp. We did two activities and did not get to do the other one. The last actiivty was the waterslide. It was very fun but it did hurt a little as well. There is a little hole with flax as a cushion and when you hit the bump you could fly up as well and when you land it could hurt a little. Me and Codie went down and I crashed into him and some other people! After the waterslide we got dry and dressed back to go back to school. Recount by Dominic.

Melville Intermediate - Y7 Camp Ruatuna 2010

Learning Intention - I am writing a recount about Y7 Camp.
On Friday the 7th of May Room 8, Room 6 and Room 14 went to Camp. It was fun. It was a big farm and we went because it was a school trip. We got there in two buses. The best activity that I liked was the big waterslide. It was a hole in the ground and they put a sheet onto it we went down it and the teachers put diswashing liquid on it. I went down as fast as I could. That was really fun. We had to make a hut that we could sit in and not get wet. Me and Dominic made one then we broke it down. We had to make a fire and cook our food on it. We had marshmellows to eat. I put mine in the fire to cook it. We used sticks and leaves in the fire to keep it going.

Melville Intermediate - Camp Ruatuna Slideshow

On Friday 7th May we went to Camp Ruatuna. There were hundred of wasps! The first thing we did was drawing. We had to draw on a piece of paper something that was around the Camp. It it isn't as easy as it looks! You had to draw with not a pencil or a pen but we had to draw with a piece of charcoal from the fire, or mud or dirt or a flower. When I was doing this I saw some people doing firs aid, like something that you carry people on. After we had our lunch we went into the bush to make a shelter.

Melville Intermediate - Week Three Blog Tasks

Yesterday we had a wonderful conversation with our friends at the Ripple Effect in Canada.  Their students not only have a wonderful classroom blog but the students also have individual blogs as well.  We are going to visit their class page, locate a students individual page that you like and leave a comment!   After you have done that you are going to move onto England and Year 4 at Brookburn School.   The students there have been creating videos you are to watch one and leave a comment on it.  Finally we are going to go to a country where we haven't left a comment before, the Grade Five Dragons in Dubai.

Once you've completed this you need to locate the Edublogger Challenge and find the class blogroll of rooms on the challenge, leave one comment on one piece of work that you haven't left a comment on before.  Finally once you've completed all four comments check that your online work dosen't have any additional comments, as if it does you will need to reply to them.  Finally check the Edublogge Challenge for the lastest Challege.  You may need assistance with this task but you will need to choose the Blog that you want to follow the most.

If you are currently a Enviro School, or a school that is involved in an Enviromentally friendly way from anywhere around the world we would LOVE to hear from you, either in the form of leaving comments about ideas that we could do to improve our school or ways we could do better. We'd also love to skype with your classroom about ideas if you would prefer!
