Melville Intermediate - Wai Maths Goes Global!

We're in the final stages of our Wai Maths Competition for our video entry, those of you who have been following along will know that we're been receiving solutions to the problem from all over New Zealand, and recently the world. The Northern Hemisphere are currently on their end of class breaks, so Bradley and Room 8 weren't sure what sort of response that

we'd get, but there's a couple of teachers we've networked with this year who've really gone out of their way. Mr C from Missouri in the USA has used his daughter to solve the original problem You can view the video by clicking on it above or click on the link to the original post here. We're currently also tracking how far the question travels in Kilometres' (it was nearly 6,000 prior to this!) as part of the problem solving process! We've got two final days to answer the question before we put it together for the competition on Monday. We also received this from Mrs Yollis, who despite it being the holidays posted on her page and sent us the video! You can watch it by clicking below or you can view the original post on her class page by clicking here. Thank you so much for contributing to our video and problem solving process!

Melville Intermeidate - Room 8 Speaks Spanish Part Two

This video is in response to the one created by Mrs Yollis classroom in Califorina, USA.  Our students have viewed their Spanish speaking lesson and used it as a model for our classroom to produce a Spanish video using some of the phrases and statements made by her students.

Melville Intermediate - Mrs Yollis Class teaches Room 8 Spanish!

Today in the classroom we spent a considerable amount of time viewing the following video form Mrs Yollis's wonderful classroom site in California, USA.  We are going to be looking at examples of online things that we can learn by looking at other classrooms, and Mrs Yollis has the sort of blog that you can learn so many things about.  The original video which Mrs Yollis' classroom produced and we used as a guide for the lesson was this:

Let's Learn Spanish! from mrsyollis on Vimeo.
We really enjoyed watching it (and I think that Mrs Yollis and her class showed so much expression, it helped us enjoy it!). So while we had PE last block we produced this video of some of our Room 8 students speaking Spanish...

Melville Intermediate - Earth Day April 22nd, Mrs Yollis Blog

One of my favourite, favourite blogs around the world is Mrs Yollis Classroom Blog from California  It always interests me to see what new wonderful work they are putting up, and always is a source of great ideas and inspiration to me.  Currently while our students are on holidays Mrs Yollis classroom is preparing for Earth Day on April 22nd, and as part of that they're going paperless in the classroom for the day! We'll be doing the same, using Mrs Yollis classroom as our inspiration, her class have created a Wallwisher for pledges, which you can add to by clicking here.   You can also have a look at the links to Earth Day from her classroom site.  Wonderful.
