Melville Intermediate - Inter Intermediate Drama 2013

The 2013 Waikato Inter Intermediate Drama Day took place this year at Berkley Middle School.  Students from throughout the Waikato were involved in the day in a variety of activities.

This recount is written by Claudia from Room Twelve.

Drama Day
On the 6th of November 8 students went on a trip out to Berkley Normal Middle School for a drama day where we did many activities such as Dance and Story line.

We learnt many new things that day, we learnt that if you are in a group and someone gives an idea to try always be positive about it and give it a go cause you never no what might or might not work, thus also lifting the vibe to that of a happy vibe.

When It came to dance it was very hard and extremely fast, with a lot of complicated moves and watching the dance teacher and some of the students move made dance very daunting but it was also very fun and very funny with the dance teachers odd exercises.

We made many new friends from the schools that also participated in drama day and the other schools brought a lot of talent and confidence but most of them were friendly and warm, people that
Melville will never forget.

We had a great day at drama day and it was an unforgettable experience, we gained knowledge, confidence and talent was shown, I know that what we learned was important and it will stay with us for life.

The video is of one of the workshops from the event and features a number of Melville Intermediate School students.  This was recorded by Mrs Bleakin during the day and edited by Damien, Josh and Drustan from Room Five.

Melville Intermediate - Is this 8C Selwyn House?

Today for Mathematics we continued our classroom building process... of our Aotearoa Quadblogging buddies 8C from Selwyn House... today we used cubes to make a three dimensional model of what we think the classroom looks like.  The process has involved detailed questioning, the construction of a 2d model and this is the next stage in the process.  We're looking for feedback from our friends, and then we are looking to refine the model and then publish it in a 3d model in Minecraft.  This video is presented by Damien from Room Five and was filmed in class this morning.  Damien created this as an explanation piece.

Melville Intermediate - LOL Drinks make it to MIS thanks to R5 and our learning Network!

Today was the first official day that LOL drinks were sold from the Canteen at Melville Intermediate School.  Those of you who have been following this blog for a while will know that earlier in the year we used our learning network of friends to locate and find all of the menus and canteen lists that we could find from around New Zealand and also around the world.  We want to take this opportunity again to thank everyone that contrinuted towards our gathering of information and data.  We haven't finished yet.  The first two new items have appeared on the MIS Canteen menu - LOL drinks were
sold today and on Friday American Hotdogs will be be sold from our Canteen.

While Damien and Wattana are two of the classroom representatives from Room Five we couldnt have made the changes and improvements to our menu for our students without the help of those people who gave us, and the entire school options.

Melville Intermediate - Blogging Can Change things!

On Friday at our School Assembly our Principal, Mr Cooke, mentioned changes that were being made to the Melville Intermediate School Tuck Shop/Canteen as a result of students research and preparation.  This is the first time in the last few years that the menu has been changed and one of the key reasons for the change is this site and those people who contributed to it.  Earlier in the year we put a series of posts online asking for school menus to compare to ours.  We had a great response from so many of you from New Zealand and overseas.  We then became involved in a process of filtering, selecting and choosing improvements that could make to our menu.  Its taken some time but we were excited to hear on Friday that our menu will now include the first new item Lol Drinks.  Its just a small step and there's more to follow but its come as a direct result of our visitors, those who contributed to our asking and the students.  A great result all around.

In Room Five we have two School representatives Damien and Wattana.  This is what Damien wrote about the process of getting the drinks added to the menu:

My new canteen list is made out of other canteens around the world I asked schools if they had canteens and the results were huge. The Melville Intermediate student councillors needed ideas for more food and drinks that appeal to other students. So I and Wattana added some new foods to our Canteen list from other schools of the world. On Friday the 17th May we went to our student council meeting in the school library and we presented our work of the proposal of our Canteen list Mrs Patterson agreed to some of it but overall it was actually pretty good. But the Lol drink was overall the best item on the list by far and the best school canteen list was from BALMORAL school.

Melville Intermediate - Skyping with Canada

Today we skyped with Canada it was fun learning new things and teaching them things like your tribes and foods they had lots of qwestions and it was fun answering them. Today Damien and I exchange cultural knowledge about our different country's and learnt a lot of new info about Canada and it was really fun. Damien and Connor spent time this morning spekaing with students from Whitecap First Nation School in Canada. It fits in nicely with relating to others, one of the five key competencies of the New Zealand Curriculum which all students are suppossed to involve themselves in. The line was a little bit laggy but overall it was a positive learning experience for our students and great to connect with students from another county.

Melville Intermediate - Damiens Hip Hop Recount

Today (Friday 23rd November) I did hip hop .  Our hip hop teacher had danced with Young Money, Cash Money, Chris Brown and Justin Timberlake.  He taught us a dance.   We learnt the whole routine in and hour and a half.  It was awesome.
