Each of the students of Melville Intermediate School have to do a number of assesments based around PrEP. One of these tasks is to review PrEP by writing a brief recount of their experience. This is written by Icis from Room Five.
Yesterday was PrEP 2013 my group Slice of Heaven were
selling toffee apples, milkshakes and truffles.
PrEP started at 3:30pm, in the first 10 minutes our store
was surrounded by heaps of customers wanting to by milkshakes. Within 20
minutes our group were selling out.it was 3:30pm our whole store had sold out and
we were left with nothing to sell.
With another 2 hours to go of PrEP our group pack up and
left to look at other stores. It was an awesome experience to be apart of PrEP.

Melville Intermediate - Narrative Writing from the UK
We're always looking for examples of work that we can use as energisers or to work into our class program. During the holidays we located a piece of writing from a Bolton Literacy conference where they called for classes and students to continue a particular piece of writing.
We thought that the writing would suit the students in Room Five and so two days ago in class we introduced our students to the piece of writing. The session was orginally led by Pie Corbett
Our students were enthused by the writing and the boys in particular appeared to really enjoy the style of the writing. The following montage of shots is the students from Room Five working on the piece of writing.

Melville Intermediate - 150 Words about Jackies Holidays
In the holidays I went to the movies and watched Grown Ups 2 with my sister and it was dumb.
After the movie I went shopping with my sister and we went and cut my hair and that stupid lady wrecked my fringe and she made me angry.
After I was angry we went home and showed my Mum what had happened. But in the morning I got over it.
My Mum got upset with the lady and she told me to never go there again.
I would never go there again because they don't have good customer service.
Walking around the lake.
When I was walking around the lake with my sister Levi saw me but I didn't see him.
When I was walking around the lkae I was so tired but then I got over it because my sister let me play on the playground and it was fun.

Melville Intermediate - PrEP is a week away!
Next week, on Thursday 24th October at Melville Intermediate School, we have our annual PrEP Market Day at School from 3:30-5:30pm. Melville Intermediate School will be open for the afternoon and our students are each running a stall/business selling items. DIY Crafters is one of the businesses that are based in Room Five this year.
Businesses are competing to produce the most profit, have the best customer service and have the innovative product.
These products that are only display are the products that the group is making. This is their CEO explaining the products. We originally got the idea from pinterest and we didnt realise how many pre-orders we were going to get which right now we have 46. We have Smalls which are 10 misms, Mediums which are 25 misms and Larges that are 50 misms. For the past 2 weeks, while we've been on Holiday, I went to Jamies House early in the morning to late at night to work on the Dreamcatchers. It took us a while but sometimes we ended up making 8-10 a day. Jamie and I spent alot of time working on these and we've been having loads of fun while we've been making them. We didnt make them for the WHOLE Holidays, we stilled had some fun but we've put a lot of hard work into them and we've only done Half of Pre-Orders so we've still got lots of work to do.

Melville Intermediate - 150 Word Recount Challenge
For our back to school energizer our students had 150 words to write about their holidays....
On Thursday of the 2nd week of the school holidays, I was on a holiday program and we were going to lazar tag/ten-pin bowling. We had to meet at the Meville community house so we could catch the bus to town. We walked to the place and we went straight to ten-pin bowling. We had about 5 turns left but we had to go to lazar tag. I was on the red team and I fired 497 shots I was mostly shooting the blue teams base and I came 2nd out of 7 players. After that we came back and finished our game and I won with 107 points I was so proud so we all walked back to the bus and we all got on. On the way back, I sat at the back. It was so hot at the back and we had to let the public on first. [Chloe]

On the last
weekend of the holidays at one pm Saturday afternoon. Me and my sister went to
the movies and watched Smurf Two. In 3D at Hoyts theatres. After I bought a RC
spy truck at the base. At the Warehouse for some headphones. During the movie I
got a free xbox360 from my dad with his new phone he got for 49 dollars. Near
the end of the movie I finished my seven drinks of lift plus exta. When it
finished I found twenty dollars on the floor so I picked it up and took it to
spend. Later I found my dad at the play ground with my little brother and
sister on the rope tower. On the way back from the base I got some new nerf
guns. But when we got home my sister lost almost all my darts with in ten
minutes all so.

Melville Intermediate - KidsQuest Minecraft Site
If you haven't seen Mr Woods Minecraft Collaborative site you really need to view the site by clicking on the link to it here. It has a range of activities and challenges based around one of the games that students are currently obsessed with in Room Five - Minecraft. In term three our students each completed one task from Mr Woods site. This was Icis from Room Five's description of the task that she completed, as well as screen shots from her completed task.
Mine craft!!!
Learning intention: I am writing an explanation for my choices.
I chose to do minecraftkidsquest.blogspot because I thought it will be fun to build a castle. I
also chose to do it so I don’t have to do written work in class. Mine craft at
the moment is really popular in our class. The only difficulty was when I had
to follow the instructions; next time I will choose to do a different mine
craft quest/ the pyramid.
I think you should I
think that you should build a hospital that is at least 10 stories high. It
should also have detail and be realistic; with windows, waiting room,
bathrooms, beds and kitchens.
The educational part
that ties into mine craft is that you are using area and perimeter in you
building.
