Melville Intermediate - Boys Haka Update

Those of you following the progress on this blog will be are of some of the current international inter-action going on between ourselves and Mr Lamshed's Class at Hackam East Boys School in Adelaide, South Australia. For those of you who haven't Mr Lamshed's Class are performing a Maori Boys Haka for the Adelaide Schools Cultural Festival. The original video was fantastic and you can locate it by clicking here. At Melville Intermediate we're lucky to have students who thought that they could help. We had a Haka from the students in Room 1 and 2 which. At the end of last week Room 8 students created a short tip video for the Boys then on Thursday Destyn and Cleveland created a second and performed their version of the haka. Now Hackam East School Boys have responded by posting thier new and improved Boys Haka. We're going to be viewing this in class on Monday, and as their requested additional tips will be filming a further tutorial for them as soon as possible. Its fascinating watching this interaction in action and wonderful to see the students taking the lead in developing cultural links with studentsin another country. Stay tuned for additional developments!

Melville Intermediate - 4,000 Milestone

According to Google Analytics this site will shortly receive its 4,000 visitor. As it been running since February 2nd, when the school year started everyone at the site is very excited about this development. We have many programs and material to still post and we haven't even reached the halfway point in the New Zealand School year! (this will happen in another month and a half!)

This week at Melville Intermediate we have Basketball after school on Tuesday at the YMCA league with both our Boys and Girls teams looking to continue their winning ways following their 30 point victories last week. Our inline skating team will be looking for their third straight win on Wednesday evening. In Hockey we're likewise undefeated following two consecutive wins (and this according to coach Mrs Basset is two more than last year!). Also this Friday see our huge fundraising dinner with Colin Meads for the School on Friday... it goes without saying it will be another big week for the school.

Melville Intermediate - Classroom Technology Challenge

On Friday for our Classroom Construction Challenge students had to get into groups of four, and construct a object where they could launch an egg the furthermost distance without the egg shattering. Despite a fatality for one of the pilots before the classroom had even been left when the dust settled, the straws had been cut and the construction completed there could only be one winner and it was the Boys team of Bailey, Prashant and Bradyn who stood tall, proud and victorious.

Melville Intermediate - Maori Haka

Today something special happened in Room 8. As you know our students are very excited about Mr Lamshed's class and his Boys Haka preparation for the upcoming Adelaide Arts Festival. Well having viewed their Haka numerous times online Destyn and Cleveland decided to model their own Haka for our friends in Australia and produce it here. That was the filming idea that they planned for, what I didn't expect was them to invite Tavita the Room Eight Teacher Aide to join in and also to do such an amazing performance. While this was filmed in the Hall the rest of Room 8 was in the classroom - I could hear the noise from the CLASS, which is a considerable distance away and I thought that they'd had a group of Boys doing Kapa Haka. Its an amazing intense performance and I am so, so proud of the Boys. Mr Lamshed and class this is for you.

Melville Intermediate - Inter Int. Soccer

Melville Intermediate - Girls Soccer Report

Inter-Intermediate Girls Soccer Report

“Go Melville” shouted the people on the sidelines, the ball was passed to the Melville Intermediate Girls team to start off. I was playing defence a the back, the other tackled and nudged us but we got the ball and headed straight for the goal. The goalie saved the ball from going in the goal.

Their goalies kicked to the other half and Bailey ran with the ball through the other players and kicked it through the other teams goal. The referee called half time and we had a little break then we went back on the field and played for another ten minutes. The game was over the Girls team won. We were all really happy we had won against Te Awamutu Intermediate 1-0.
Our second game was against Berkley School , the ten minutes passed fast and the other team were leading one nil at half time. In the second half the other team scored another so they had scored twice and we hadn’t. We were disappointed but still kept our heads held up high with the result.

Following this game we played against Fairfield Intermediate and beat them 2-0 we were very excited by this result as it meat that we qualified for the semi-finals.
In the semi-final we played against Peachgrove Intermediate and they kept tackling us for the ball. In the first half Peachgrove Intermediate scored one goal and in the second half they scored again to win 2-0.

We had a long break for an hour and a half and we watched the Boys play. They lost but worked really hard when they were playing. We stated our last game which was against Cambridge Intermediate for 3rd and 4th and we lost this by only one goal to nil. We ended up coming 4th place overall.

Boys Inter-Intermediate Soccer Report
On Wednesday 13th May 2009 our School Soccer team went to Interschool Soccer competition at Galloway Park. Our team was made up of Blair Aaron, Hyrum, Nick, Jacob, Taylor, Raukawa, James, Rex, Kaiya and Nick.

Our first game was against Matamata Intermediate, and we drew 0-0. Then we had our break. An hour later we had our second game against Tokoroa Intermediate. We dominated possession but still weren’t able to get the ball past their keeper. Our closet chance was when Kaiya hit the crossbar. We drew with Tokoroa 0-0. Our third game was against Cambridge Intermediate. We hardly were in this game in the first half. We ended up losing this game 0-3. Our last game of our pool was against Peachgrove Intermediate. They dominated the whole game. They scored a header in the last minute and were celebrating like crazy. We lost this again 0-3. We made it to the play offs between 7th and 8th. We played against Fairfield Intermediate. Our best chance was when Aaron passed it to me then I shot but missed. I was a little mad at myself. Fairfield scored again and again. We ended up losing 2-0 and came eight. We were very tired at the end. We would like thank Mr Bell for coaching us.
