Melville Intermediate - Inter-Intermediate Touch 2010: Boys Report

On Thursday 25th March it was the Waikato Inter-Intermediate Touch tournament held at Swarbrick Park. The Boys team was Dylan, Dillion, Tiera, Rex, Henco, Thomas, Daniel, Raukawa, Syndrix, Chase, Scott (vice-captain), and Nick (Captain) (Me).
We arrived at our destination… SWARBRICK PARK! We walked off the bust and we ready to cross the road. Look left, look right, we crossed… we got to the place where we needed to set up. We started to warm up for the tournament. Our game plan was three drives then three quickie attempts. Our first round was a bye so we had time to check our the other teams if they were sharp. 20 minutes later our first game started. We were up against Cambridge. Two minutes into the game Scott did a long pass and put Teira in the corner for a beautiful try. Another two minutes later I stepped two players and scored in the corner. The game was going on and we scored another three tries to Teira, Ruakawa and Dylan.

We then went over to watch the Melville Girls play against Cambridge they won 1-0.
Our game in the third round started against Matamata. The hooter went and we started our drives. Three drives in I saw Dylan open so I took it from receiver and ran wide to set Dylan in the corner. Wooo. What a TRY! Seven minutes later Matamata scored in the corner 1-1 and the game was deadlocked with three minutes left. We held them out for 15 touches before a guy in Nike Mercurial Veloci’s tried a dive and scored a try we lost the game 1-2.

Our fourth round game was against Berkley. My friend in my soccer team Flynn was in that team. We started off scrappy and the scores were locked at 0-0 with six minutes remaining. We were near the try line and me and Scott set and did the quickie. I got the ball from the planter and I ran into my hole and scored. With one minute left Berkley got a runaway and scored. That meant it was a 1-1 draw.

Fifteen minutes later we had a game against the unbeaten tournament favourites Maeroa Intermediate. They were walking to the field looking good. We had to beat them to have a chance in the semi-finals. The hooter sounded and we started doing our drives. Four minutes into the game Rex stepped a guy and scored but he tripped over himself and nearly touched it down dead!Three minutes later Nick found a gap and took advantage of it. He took the gap so fast that he got a run away from fifty meters out. He scored and did the Masaga shuffle. Four minutes later Nick found another similar gap and went through like a flash again. He scored another runaway! Up came the Masaga shuffle again. Maeroa scored two late tries to make the score 3-2 to us.

Melville Intermediate - Inter-Intermediate Waikato Athletics

Yesterday was the Interschool Inter-Intermediate Waikato Athletics competition. My events for the Athletics were shot put and cricket ball throw. I did really well in both events and was having fun as well. I really concentrated on my events.

The best part of the day was the relay running. Even though we didn't come first or second for the relays, but who cares at least we did our best. Everyone had fun and some people had to wait around. I was enjoying myself because I didn't want to stay at school and do work. Every single school were cheering for the people that represented them in the events they were in. Like sprints, shot put, running, long jump, high jump and all the other events. Yesterday was really cool.

Out of all the schools that were there, we came fourth. This is the best result for Melville Intermediate School in the past six years! Our school was the hosts for athletics.

Recount by Vitolina Room 8.

The following students were placed in the top three for their events for Melville Intermediate School Athletics for 2009:
Kendall 3rd in Senior Girls Shot Put, Donovan 2nd in the Junior Boys Shot Put, Kalib who was 2nd in the Junior Boys 1000m, and 3rd in the 1500m. Terrina was 2nd in the Senior Girls 1500m and 3rd in the 100m, Travis finished second in the Senior Boys Cricket Ball Throw. we also had two students win their events Hamish in the Senior Boys Criket Ball Throw and Corbyn in the Senior Girls Cricket Ball Throw.

Today at Poritt Stadium in Hamilton the final event of the 2009 Inter-Intermediate Sports Calendar took place - Inter-Intermediate Athletics. Terrina from Room 1 finishing as runner up in the Senior Girls 1500m and also coming 3rd in the 1000m.... Kalib from Room 12 finishing as runner up in the 1000m and 3rd in 1500m... Atela coming 5th in the 100m... it was a jam packed day of action (and mainly good weather thank goodness)... there are some very brief highlights from the day... coming soon... Melville Intermediate School ended up finishing 4th out of 11 Schools for a job very well done on a great day! Our warmest congratulations to our friends at Peachgrove Intermediate School who dominated proceedings!

This is the video of our Senior Boys in action for the 100m - Thamer and Elijah in their heats and then the Boys 100m Final.

Melville Intermediate - Athletics: Sprints

This is some of the highlight from Melville Intermediate's Elite School Athletics held last week. The top two sprinters in the 100m and 200m qualify for the Inter-Intermediate Waikato Schools Finals so the pressure was on to make one of the two spots from our 320 student school for Y7 Girls, Y7 Boys, Y8 Girls and Y8 Boys. Next week on Tuesday we are holding the Inter-Intermediate Waikato Schools Athletics Finals at Porritt Stadium. From Room 8 Vitolina will be there in Shot Putt and Cricket Ball Throw. Kaleb and Nick will be there with the Y7 team representing us in Sprints. Mr Webb will be there managing and we will have a film crew filming during the day.

Melville Intermediate - Inter-Intermediate Softball

Today we had the Waikato Inter-Intermediate Softball Tournament at Resthills Park. The Melville Intermediate School Boys team defeated Peachgrove Intermediate School in their first game before beating Morrinsville Intermediate School in their second. They qualified for the Semi-Finals against Tokoroa Intermediate, won that and had to take on Peachgrove Intermediate in the Finals again. Unfortunatly this time Peachgrove were able to win but the Boys can be well pleased with finishing runners up.

The Girls had a series of games against all the other teams in the competition. They defeated Peachgrove Intermediate in the first game 6-2. In the second they beat Morrinsville Intermediate just 6-5. They then accounted for Berkley School 10-7 before beating Te Awamutu Intermediate 9-3. There was a three way tie for first place as the result of the Girls final game against Matamata Intermediate, which Matamata won 4-8. The team had a great day and played exceptionally well! Ata from Room 1 ended up the leading run scorer with eight runs!

Melville Intermediate- Boys Rugby Recount 2

On Tuesday 16th June MIS went to Matamata to play rugby there. First we had to get into our jacket and shorts. We travelled in Liams car. It was me, William and Liam. We left on the road and the other Boys went in the others cars. When we got there the boys went into the changing sheds then we went back out and our first game was at 10:00am. Melville vs. Tokoroa Intermediate. The boys went onto the field to play. We played for ages and we had a draw with Tokoroa 5-5. The next game was at 11:00am against Cambridge Intermediate in the rain. It was a very hard game and the score was 12 to Cambrige and 0 to Melville. The third game was against Fairfield Intermediate. We had a good game against them but it was hard because we lost to them, 0-5. We had a final game against Morrinsville. After that we had a little feed then we walked back to the cars and we went back to Melville. When we got back we took off our jackets and waited for the bell to ring. When we went home I was happy to be at home because I got a shower to wash off all the mud then after that I had a feed and cleaned my boots. I had a little sleep and thats the end of my story.

Melville Intermediate - Boys Rugby Recount

On Tuesday 16th of June Melville Intermediate Boys Rugby team went to Matamata for the Inter-Intermediate Rugby Tournament 2009. That morning we met with Mr Webb our coach and our rugby jersey and our Melville Intermediate school jacket. Our first game was at 10:00am, Melville Vs. Tokoroa. Thamer was the one that scored for us and Tokoroa scored one so we ended up with a tie 5-5. Tokoroa was great they worked together and I liked thier half back. After our first game we watched the overs games and they were good. For our second game we played against Cambridge Intermediate, Half way through that game we tried to score but they were too good. We had a good game with Cambridge and in the end Cambridge won 14-0. I thought that in that game Liam Lomax was our best player. After our second game we had some food and a drink. We practised our positions and we had a talk. After we heard the siren we went to the field and got set up. The siren went to start and Conrad kicked the ball and we chased it up. At half time we were a bit angry because we were losing, but only by five points. We played our hardest and tried to win but in the end we lost. We then had a fun game against Morrinsville Intermediate. After that we got our gears and left. On the way home William had some good jokes.

Melville Intermediate - Inter-Intermediate Rugby

Yesterday we participated in the Inter-Intermediate Boy Rugby Competition which was held in Bedford Park in Matamata. Melville Intermediate fielded a team in the under 55kg Competition. After opening with a tense 5-5 draw against Tokoroa Intermediate and then despite having plenty of ball and attacking opportunity, in heavy rain against Cambridge Intermediate Melville lost 0-12. The final pool game was against Fairfield Intermediate. In a 25 minute game a draw or a win to Melville would have seen us advance to the semi-finals. It couldn't have been closer with sustained pressure as both sides were desperate to win. Melville crossed the Fairfield try line on two occasions but couldn't ground the ball, on a strong counter attack Fairfield scored before half time and managed to hold that lead until the end of the game. We filmed all games in full and will be posting them online in the next few days! Stay tuned!

Melville Intermediate had four pool games, and the scores from this will be updated tomorrow, although they didn't make the Semi-Finals unfortunatly. Photo's and video are currently being processed and will be posted shortly.

Melville Intermediate - Rugby Vs. Fairfield Intermediate

This is footage from Tuesday 26th May of the Melville Intermediate Girls Rugby team in action this time against Fairfield Intermediate. Coming into this game Fairfield were undeafted where-as Melville had only a draw from their first three 2009 outings. Things didn't look good to start with when Fairfield took a quick 10-0 lead, however strong plays and three tries, two to Jonaha and one to Kendall, plus a vital conversion by Aria saw Melville triumph 17-15. Filmed as with all games at this tournament at Memorial Park, Cambridge.
