Coming up at Melville Intermediate we have a very special week, Maori Language Week 2011 when the Maori Language is celebrated by staff and students of Melville Intermediate and across New Zealand.
Maori is a very important part of Melville Intermediate, its our single biggest ethnic group of students. This site features a significant amount of work about Maori Language from the students. Our Maori Mihi work features significantly through Google searches, coming in the top three in New Zealand and worldwide. We've also featured lessons in Maori Poi Making and you can see footage of our fabulous Cultural Performing Arts Group (CPA) performing traditional Maori songs from 2009 at the Frankton Markets, 2009 during our massive CPA Showcase prior to their Australian tour and 2010 during their end of Christmas Rest Home Shows around Hamilton. You can also learn to Count in Maori as well by clicking on this link.
To talk about the events coming up for Maori Langauge Week Shaylee spoke to Matua Justin who is the teacher in Room Two, one of the two teachers of Te Ao Ipurangi the Maori Digital Program at Melville Intermediate, this was filmed on Friday 20th May 2011.
