Melville Intermediate - Week One, Term Three, Commenting.

Between now and Friday you need to visit the following sites and look at the work the students have posted to start the term.  You need to leave at least one comment to one of the pages.  Remember that you comment must follow the correct format, that it includes your first name only, our class and URL that the comment reflects that you have read or viewed the post in detail and asks at least one question at the end of it.  All of the classes that are listed are on our sidebar of classroom links or you can click directly on the URL below.

Miss Tyler Smiths Class from South Africa have set up a number of posts and links to other sites.  Some of your had your inquiry from Term Two based around aspects of Egypt, they've got some great links to the BBC Pyramid Building Site.  You can click on their class page at this address.

Room Seven at Vardon School in Hamilton, New Zealand have been busy posting at the end of last term and always have some fantastic work and posts on their site.  You can visit their page to look by clicking on this link here.

Our Quadblogging buddies from 8C in Selwyn House, Christchurch have started their new unit of inquiry, and this term they are looking at 'Sharing Our Planet' although its only the first week of school they've already used Google Drive to share the starting of their unit., which is something that we are going to do this morning in class, just before interval.

Mrs Mel B's class from Tokomaru School like us are doing Netball for Physical Education for the rest of the term, they're also very luck that they are having representatives from Netball Manawatu come and run the sessions with their students.  You can che here.
ck out what they've been doing by clicking on the link

Room Twelve from New River Primary School are looking at 'Cultures of the World' this term.  They've started by learning a Samoan Sasa and having experts coming in for the tutition.  You can read about that and see the pictures.

Finally we can't forget our friends from Point England School.   Room Thirteen are very good communicators and have a wonderful class page, as do the students and other classes.  You can view their work on 'Lifes a Stage' for Term Three by looking at their Immersion assembly here

Point England School: better than the News.

Last week there was quite a bit in the news about the visit of Will.I.Am from the Black Eyed Peas to New Zealand. While he was officially appearing here as part of clothing company promotion, he also visited Point England School and the Manaiakalani cluster in Auckland and made a donation of $100,000 to the cluster!  The students from our class were wishing that they lived in Auckland for this experience.   This video is from Point England School of the event and was embedded from their site.

Firstly we heard about it originally through our friends from Room Thirteen at Point England School. They've been one of our longest buddy blog sites and the students have always got wonderful work that is posted. We have their page on our side bar, so when the visit happened at thier school we heard about it quickly. From there we were able to look at other reports and see this wonderful video. Over the following days some of the students from Point England School wrote about their expereinces. You can see Darius recount here. Josephine is another student from PES, she's been featured during the holidays on this blog because she was posting so regularly and also because she was out posting our entire class earlier this year you can read her thoughts on the event by clicking here.

The other great thing apart from hearing and seeing this event so quick is that the students present have blogged about it in detail, much more so than we were able to see on the news later that evening.  There would have been students from our school who would have known more about the event than before it aired on the news later that evening.

Melville Intermediate - PES Student Blogs

Josephine from Point England School
Its the holidays in New Zealand, our students are not due back in the classroom until Monday, May 6th. However in the meantime there's some other great sites to check out. Mr Webb's been active online and amazed by the work that's going on, in the holidays, from a couple of students from Point England School in Auckland. There's an entire school of wonderful blogs at work up there, we've been very lucky to have visitors from their pages and plenty of comments. We'd recommend that if you are looking for a great students site that you check out the blogs from Josephine.  She's made over a hundred posts this term, and there's a great variety of writing about many different topics.  There wouldn't be many class pages that post a hundred times a term, so this is a fantastic effort.  Another thing is to have a look at her posts during the holiday, she's working independently in her own time to publish to her blog.  Amazing motivation, dedication and effort.  Well worth a look.

Sela from Point England School
Another great indivdual site that you can visit is Sela's  page.  Again like Josephine, Sela is posting in the school holidays in her own time.  She's written about a variety of topics and events that have occurred Netball, the Holidays (which are boring because nothing is happening apparently!) and suggestions about great learning sites that you can visit.

If your a student from Room Five at Melville Intermediate School, reading this in the holidays you can claim a special, edible prize at the start of Term Two.  You will need to visit either of the pages listed above and leave a comment (you can claim the prize twice if you leave two comments) and follow the regular comment writing procedure.

Melville Intermediate - Point England School

If you didn't catch the clip about Point England Primary School on TVNZ on Close Up on Friday evening, I have put a link to it here. Close Up is a national current affairs program that broadcasts every night at 7pm. If you watch carefully in the video you will see Mrs She from Little Voices, Little Scholars, one of my favourite other New Zealand blogs waving. It's a special little clip because Mr Webb used to teach at another school down the road from Point England and knows some of the teachers there very well! If you haven't seen the clip then you need to click here.
