Melville Intermediate - How to make Maori Poi
This lesson is a description and the step by step instructions on how to create or make a Maori Poi for Maori cultural dances. This is created by Annalize, Holly and Fauiki. They go through the equipment that you need to create a Poi, and the steps that you need to create one. This is the first half of two lessons the second of which will be uploaded tomorrow. Thanks to Matua Michael for his help.

What a fantastic introduction, girls! I love this set of instructions - you have included the aim, list of materials and clear instructions by "showing"... I love your linking words as well (first, secondly). The scoopers are going to use this next term to help them make their poi... You have made a fantastic teaching tool - thanks so much! I am from the United States and your teacher pointed out this post to me. I enjoyed watching your video. It can be especially hard to be in a video when you are not talking. Well done to everyone. I have no idea what a Maori Poi is supposed to look like or why it is used. I'll have to come back to see the rest of your videos. Thank you for sharing your work. I will show it to my students when school resumes in September. It is a fantastic example of good student video work!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed watching the video. I could tell the students are not yet used to speaking to a camera like it is the audience. It can be really intimidating. I think the students spoke with excellent volume and enunciated the words well. Good job!

I was born in Auckland and went to school in green bay.i was thrilled when one of my daughters asked me about us making some poi. Yours was the website thaqt stood out to me the most and my 5 daughters enjoyed watching it with me tonight. They love seeing mum excited about her homeland and our culture..thanks so much looking forward to showing them part two and then making them togeather.
