Melville Intermediate - Technology Challenge 2

For this technology challenge the students in Room 7 (which Mr Webb teaches on a Tuesday and Wednesday) were challenged to build the biggest tower possible using straws, put a plate on top and on that plate balance a round lolly. Only this time three had to be placed on top of the plate and balanced successfully for the tower to count. Congratulations to Hemi's group who'se 40 straw structure came in at over a meter!

This montage of photographs is from Friday's technology Challenge. The task was simple - use 40 straws to construct a tower, on top of that tower place a plate, flat side up, and then on top of the plate place a round gumball that had to remain stationary. Highest tower where the gumball didn't fall off would win! There were some great ideas put forward (including Janice's group who suspended their gumball in straw but still had it touching the plate but once the judging had been completed team Molinda were declared the winners with a tower that stood 54cm high! Well done team!

Melville Intermediate - R7 Technology

This was a technology challenge that was conducted with the students of Room 7. In it the students had newspaper and no additional material and they had to build a 'bridge' to support as much weight as possible between two desks. Students when the allotted time was up (which was slightly longer than half an hour) had to apply weight in the form of text books to the bridge. The challenge was to build a bridge without using selotape or any additional resource other that just the paper. The winning entry from Gemma and her team was able to hold onto 27 Maths Text Books, which was then topped off by 23 School dictionaries and it still didn't collapse! The Girls then followed this up by carefully having a student sit on the bridge! (who weighs 45kg and the bridge still would not collapse!)
