Melville Intermediate - Recount Writing

This term we had to write a recount in class, this is Ryan's recount about his term holiday break.

In the second week of the holidays my brother and my sister and I travelled to my grandma’s house for a week. She lives up at Whakatane so we had to drive for 2 hours to get there. She lives on a big farm .when we got there my cousins were there as well, they stayed there the week as well. We brought our ps3 because they have two other remotes. We played modern warfare 3 while we were there. She also has sky and my cousins brought there soccer nets over so we played a bit of soccer she also has a spa. We went in it some nights on Friday night we stayed at our cousin’s place. Saturday morning we went into town, our mum gave us a bit of money to spend so we went and got some lunch from a restaurant before heading back to grandmas. My parents came and stayed the night and on the way back home we ended up borrowing some games off our cousins and the borrowed some games off us. Overall it was really fun staying the entire week. The meals were delicious I didn’t like leaving just before the first day of school though.      

Melville Intermediate - Duck Calling with Kellen R2

Today in Room Five we had some special guests, one of whom was Kellen from Room Two.  Kellen was keen to demonstrate to the classroom his Duck Calling techniques as Kellen has been involved in Duck Shooting.   While he was keen to demonstrate this to the classroom Mr Webb had an even better idea to send Ryan with a camera to an area of the school and have Kellen prepare a video to show everyone, not just in Room Five, but our visitors from around New Zealand the world what he can do.

Melville Intermediate - Geo Caching Recount

during week 3 of term 3 we started options on Friday in the middle block. I was in geo caching geo caching is when you use a GPS or in this case we were using Google maps to track down some caches/little boxes you use a decrypter and an x and y location .Once you have found the cache you write your name and the date on a sheet of paper .You put the cach back exactly were you found it.

In Geo caching I have found 4 caches and have and have gotten to step four of a multi cach .A multi cache is when you go to different locations and find little slips that have anther location on it .You need to keep doing it until you find the cach .There is also a puzzle cache which is when you have to solve a puzzle to find the cach.

So far this term I have enjoyed it because the mental challenge required to solve the puzzles to find the cache.  Recount by Ryan - Room Five.

Melville Intermediate - Ryan's Term Two Recount

This term one of our subjects was poetry.  We learnt up to nineteen different types of poetry, and did lots of examples.  We also completed work on procedural writing, both with photos and without photos.  We used procedural writing for our celebrations task as well.  We also entered the KWN competition.  We have been storyboarding this for the last couple of weeks.  My groups chose Ecology as our theme.  We have been researching a chosen celebration each, my one was on Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot.   We researched the history and why it happened.  We also completed our work on options and technology.  I was in woodwork for technology for the start of the term and I was in music for technology and options.  We also did Drama with Mrs Bleakin.  We learnt different types of drama and different kinds of games.  One of main subjects was also Matariki.  We chose one planet to research and learnt about the constellations.  My favourite thing of all this term was music options because we got to do anything that we wanted to do and I choose to work on producing songs with garageband.   Ryan is a student of Room Five and wrote this recount about the work that he has completed in term two of 2012.

Melville Intermediate - Introducing our Music Room

We introduced the music room.  What we did was played instrument like the guituar, the keyboards and showed how to use Garageband.   This was filmed on March 14th by Brent, Levi, Joey and Ryan.

Melville Intermediate - Cooking Technology 2012

This is our very first in class video for 2012! Students at Melville Intermediate School rotate around a series of Technology classes twice a week for ninety minutes sessions in a five week block.  Currently the students in Room Five are involved in Cooking, Music, Art, Woodwork and Science.  Today in Cooking Class Deighton from Room Five presented this short video about what the students were up to today, and Ryan filmed it.  Filmed in the Cooking room on Tuesday 7th February 2012.
