Melville Intermediate - Inter Class Touch

In Term One Melville Intermediate held an Inter-Class Touch Rugby Competition to see who was the best Y7 and Y8 Class. In the first in our highlights of Term 1 series Kaiya recounts Room 8 struggle to triumph in the competition!

On the first day of the Touch game we had to play Room 2. We lost our first game because we were getting used to each other and playing touch with other people and getting to know peoples names. In the second game we were getting the hang of things but we were defeated by Room 12. The third game against Room 13 we won because we worked together as a team. We didn't work as individuals. In that game we had only one Girl playing for us (you had to play with four Boys and two Girls but we have only got seven Girls in the class and 19 Boys) who was Arahia so she had to play the game without any breaks. We had to win our other game to get into the semi-finals. We beat Room 17 just and then we had to play against Room 14 to make the play offs. This was our best game of the year probably because we didn't have any Girls available to play so we had to play two players short for the whole game! We still managed to win! Phew! That put us into the Semi-Finals against Room 12 who'd beat us in the second game, this time we played well together and beat them 5-1. Arahia played the whole game as did Vitolina! In the final game of Touch for 2009 we had to play Room 2 again, they were the favourites because they hadn't lost once and had beaten us in the first game. We were really lucky to have Arahia and Vitolina who played all game for us again (without a break!).

Nick scored a try in the first couple of minutes. Destyn then came on from the substitues bench and scored nearly straight away! That was 2-0 to Room 8. Two minutes later I intercepted a pass and ran thirty metres to score. We ended up winning the final game 3-0. Mr Webb promised us a shared lunch for working well as a team and respecting everyone and all the teams that we played against. We can't wait for the term two inter-class competition!

Melville Intermediate - Touch Vs. Peachgrove

On 25th March Melville Intermediate competed in the 2009 Girls Touch Finals. Wins against Matamata Intermediate, Te Awamutu Intermediate and Berkley saw Melville have a last game against the ten time winners of the competition Maeroa Intermediate. Maeroa won meaning that Melville Intermediate had to play Peachgrove Intermediate in the semi-final. Aria scored (before the cameras could even be set up!) to give Melville a 1-0 lead, these highlights are of the rest of the game!

Following this game Peachgrove advanced to the finals where they played Maeroa Intermediate, who have won the Girls Touch Titles for an incredible 10 years. To get there they'd had to defeat Morrinsville Intermediate. This other semi-final was an unbelieveable game. Both teams were tied after 20 minutes and then a drop off occurred where both teams lost three players taking the game to a 3 on 3. Even then Maeroa and Morrinsville could be barely seperated with Maeroa scoring near the end.

The final between Peachgrove and Maeroa was one way traffic with Peachgrove Girl's winning 5-1. To cap off an incredible day for the school they'd also won a nail biter earlier when their Boys had defeated Tokoroa Intermdiate 3-2 with the last play of the game! As for Melville Intermediate following this game they had a play off for 3rd/4th the highlights of that game will be posted online tomorrow!

Melville Intermediate - Staff Vs. Pupil Touch Rugby

Today the annual Staff vs. Pupil Touch rugby game took place at Melville Intermediate. This might have been close in previous years but in 2009 it was all one way traffic. The staff took on the Boys in the first half of the 20 minute game smiting them 4-0. In the second the one way traffic continued with the staff racking up another 3 tries to take the game 7-0. A proud moment indeed.

Melville Intermediate - Touch Vs. Te Awamutu

Following victory over St Andrews Middle School in our Boys first game on 25th March they had to play against eventually pool winners Te Awamutu Intermediate. Two tries on Te Awamutu's left wing early in the game saw Melville desperate to score to get back into in. Conrad did a wonderful dummy and step (too quick for the camera you need to watch very closely) but solid Te Awamutu defence kept Melville from scoring again meaning Te Awamutu won the game 1-2. If you'd like to visit Te Awamutu Intermediate you can do so by clicking on the link here.

Melville Intermediate - St Andrews Middle School

This is the highlights from the Waikato Intermediates Inter-Intermediate Touch Competition that was held on 25th of March. In our Boys first game they had to take on St Andrews Middle School. The games at this tournament were intense 12 minute matches and the Boys were very nervous before playing their opening game. This was filmed by Jacob from Room 18. If you would like to visit St Andrews Middle School then check the link here to one of their classroom's blogs! There was no half time in this competition but tries to Elijiah and Hamish saw Melville win 2-0.

Melville Intermediate - Touch Results 2009

Today the Waikato Inter-Intermediate Touch Finals were held at Swarbrick Park. Melville Intermediate Boys started off positively with a win against St Andrews Middle School 2-0. They then found the going tough against Te Awamutu Intermediate losing 1-2, and were then defeated by Matamata Intermediate 1-3. They lost to Berkley 1-3 before finishing with a 1-1 draw against Maeroa Intermediate.

The Girls defeated Matamata Intermediate 1-0, Te Awamutu Intermediate 3-1 and Berkely Intermediate 1-0. They then lost to Maeroa 1-2 in their final pool game. The had to play Peachgrove Intermediate in the semi-finals and although Aria scored first Peachgrove were able to win 3-1.

The Peachgrove Intermediate Girls went on to show their class in the final beating Maeroa 4-1.
Their school also had a double celebration as the Peachgrove Intermediate Boys defeated Tokoroa Intermediate 3-2 to claim the Boys title as well. This was a particularly impressive victory as it had been Tokoroa setting the early pace and leading 2-1 at half time. It was Peachgrove who equalised early in the second half and score with literally the last play of the game to win 3-2.

We had a Melville Intermediate Film Crew on site all day who did a wonderful job and the highlights from this tournament will be appearing over the next few days.

Melville Intermediate - Sports Update

Today our School Swimming Sports were held to select the School team for next weeks Inter-Intermediate Competition. This morning there was significant rainfall which led to the competition still going ahead, although it was in a slightly reduced format. We were there with our camera and Bailey from Room 8 will be presenting a video of the event soon. Those students who meet the qualifying times will be travelling to Cambridge on Monday for the competition.

Tuesday night Touch saw Melville Intermediate's teams still searching for their first wins of the competition. The Girls were defeated by Peachgrove Intermediates Mixed team, although the score couldn't have been closer at 0-1. The Boys had a rematch against Morrinsville and although last weeks game was close Morrinsville Intermediate really showed their class tonight with a 2-8 win. This game was filmed and the highlights will be available later in the week. Some of the tries have to be seen to be believed!

Melville Intermediate - Touch Highlights

This is the final trail video before we start regularly recording material and transmitting next week. This was filmed (badly) by Mr Webb at Touch in Frankton on Tuesday 17th February and contains some footage of Melville Intermediate Vs. Crashaw School and Morrinsville Intermediate.

It was edited and put together by Kaleb in Room 8. There wasn't a tripod used during the recording which is one of the reasons that the quality is as it is! From next week a team has been assembled to record, edit and publish our Melville Intermediate sporting events as they happen, we hope to be having a next day turn around with most events which you'll be able to catch live on 'Room 8 @ Melville Intermediate....' stay tuned for more!

Melville Intermediate - Sports Results

One of the features of this blog is that we will be keeping you up to date with some of the exciting activities related to Melville Intermediate School.

Our sports for 2009 kicked off on Saturday 14th February when the Melville Intermediate Softball team played against Southwell School losing 6-16.

On Tuesday 17th February our Touch Teams Competed in the Hamilton Touch Competition at Frankton. Our Girls team lost to Peachgrove Intermediate 2-4 while our Boys had a tough double header. Their first game was against Crashaw School which they were narrowly defeated 3-5. They then had to back this up against Morrinsville Interemdiate (don't forget to check out some of their fantastic blogs through the links!). It was close at half time the score being 3-5 to Morrinsville but a combination of outstanding play from Morrinsville and the effect of playing two games in a row saw the score move to 3-9 in Morrinsville's favour. We'd like to congratulate all three teams on their sportsmanship and efforts.

We took some footage at the venue on the day and our students will be working hard to edit and rework the footage, hopefully it will be ready to go online tomorrow. Stay tuned!
