Melville Intermediate - Art Technology 2013

In Art for Technology we are doing 'Fantastic Creatures'.   First before we did anything we had to draw a part mural from 'Where the Wild Things Are'.   Once we had done that we had to make and design out own creature that was 'Fantastic' and they had to made from recycling materials mainly bottles.   An example is that some people have made some dinosaurs and I have made a sea monster.  We had to paper mache them once we had the design so that the model was strong.   The photographs that we took from Art Tech are by Owen and Josh and show the design process.

Melville Intermediate - Matariki Summary by Owen and Josh

Matariki is a constellation of seven stars that represent the Maori New Year which takes place in late May or early June. It occurs just prior to sunrise. In tradition Matariki was a season to celebrate and prepare for the New Year coming.

A lot of the produce of the preparation was given to the god of food Rongo.

The constellation was important for navigating and timing the seasons. Matariki has an English name: Pleiades star cluster.

The constellation Matariki has seven sisters their names are: Electra, Maia, Taygete, Alcyone, Celaeno, Asterope and Merope.

Matariki is featured often you just don’t notice it for instance does anyone know the Subaru logo, well it has seven stars and those stars are the one (seven) and only Matariki stars. There are many paintings of them in museums (and even more not so great attempts).

Melville Intermediate - Go Karts at Camp by Jozarn

Shaun taught me how drift and he taught me how to do a donut.  It felt cool when I started to drift on the track.  I made it into the finals (of the Camp Go Kart competition) where I had to race against Mr Willis.  He made me eat his dust.  Tane (from Room Six) he made the fastest time and his time was 47 seconds.  Nathan M, he was the man at drifting, Liam he also ate Mr Willis dust.

This is Jozarns recount about the Go Karting at the Narrows Camp last week, Jozarn brainstormed and planned his writing, edited it, and this is the published  version.  The video that features the Go Kart racing was created by footage shot by Jamie and Elizabeth and was edited and put together by Cody, Owen with Nathan H overseeing it.  Filmed on location at the Narrows Camp, 4th to the 6th March 2013.

Melville Intermediate - Owen's Mystery Food!

This mystery item belongs to Owen - he knows what it is, he likes to eat them for his lunch, but can anyone else out there identify what it is?
We didn't have a successful identification from the students of Room Five, so is there someone out there who can help us? Or has Owen stumped our audience?
Owen is a new student to Melville Intermediate in Room Five for 2013.  Last week in class he was consuming a mystery item for his lunch.  No-one in class was sure as to what he was eating (although of course Owen knew) we were talking about who else would know? Do you?
