Melville Intermediate - Maori Language Week 2011

At Melville Intermediate we have something special planned again this year for Maori Language Week, again as last year our studnets are available for online tutoring in Maori culture through Skype! You might not be aware but we're trending #1 for Google searches for Maori Mihi in New Zealand and the World! Also we've hit the top ten for poi making videos! On the Blog pages on the top right hand corner of this site you can see just a fraction of the Maori resources from this site that the students have created over the past three years.

We've also got our 2011 Maori Mihi team available, you can see them in this video below, if you'd like our help leave us a comment on this post and well be in touch!

Maori Language Week 2011 from myles webb on Vimeo.

We're very excited by all the visitors that we have been receiving recently from Facebook for Maori Language Week, as many people are visiting the site for the first time we thought that we'd highlight some of our work for our new guests.   This video is a class from California, USA, that we collaborated with in 2010.  We created a tutorial about the use of Raukau Sticks and  posted it online, and the is the result of the Elementary School Class in Califorina's work!

Another class that we've been collaborating with is in Siberia, Russia. All Melville Intermediate School students have to create and speak a Mihi as part of their work at School, so we created a series of instructional video tutorials explaining about the concepts and ideas. One of the classrooms thats collaborated with us has been Lyudmila's Classroom in Kransnoyarskiykray Kray, Russia, this is one of their students speaking Maori, in Russia
