Today in Te Awamutu at the Events Centre we had the Inter-Intermediate Waikato Basketball Competition. The day was a special day for Melville Intermediate as the Girls went through the tournament unbeaten and won seven games on the day.
They defeated Morrinsville Intermediate 22-10 in the first game, Maeroa Intermediate 22-6 in the second, Berkley School was defeated 22-6, Te Awamutu the hosts 22-6 before in the final pool game Fairfield was beaten 15-6. In the Semi-Final Melville's girls played against fourth qualifier Morrinsville Intermediate and beat them 41-2. They then played Fairfield again in the final winning 26-12. Awesome preparation for the National AIMS finals taking place in two short weeks!

There's a mountain of footage and material from this event that we're currently making our way through and will be posting this online over the coming days. Well done Melville Intermediate.
Congratulations on your impressive victories in basketball. Basketball is one of the major sports in the United States. Does New Zealand have a professional basketball league?

No Mr Chamberlain we don't. We only have a New Zealand team that play in the Australian League (called the Breakers). We've had two players in New Zealand's history play in the NBA (actually it might only be one, its one definatly).
