Melville Intermediate - Enviromental Report
Hello, my name is Keegan and I'm a Room 8 enviro agent. Each class at Melville Intermediate class has two Enviromental Agents. Today I'm going to tell you about the Worm Baths. With the worm baths people in this school (not just the students the adults too!). People put their fruit and tea bags in their classrooms yellow bucket - but do not put citrus in! Two people from one class go around the school putting the other classes food in thier yellow bins. Then they go to the gardens and put the food in the worm baths. These are old baths that are in the school garden. The food is put in the baths and the worms eat them and produce manure. Then they get the green buckets under the worm baths and put the manure away for selling. The enviro agents are trying to get the silver award for our school for this year.
Hi Keegan,
ReplyDeleteHow much do you sell the worm castings for?
Not thatI want to be your first international customer!
Sue
Thanks so much for your post Keegan!
ReplyDeleteMy class is currently doing an Inquiry study into "10 Ways to Save the Planet" and lately we've been looking at worm farms and composting.
I'll make sure we read your post when I'm back in class on Wednesday so we can learn more. Thanks for putting so much detail into your post.
Rachel from Room 9 Nelson Central
We did worm composting in our classroom last year and I have them at home now (it is our summer break). I am trying to figure out the best way to separate the worms from the castings (thank you YouTube!). I am not being that successful so I was wondering how you all do it there.
