Melville Intermediate - Enviromental Report

Hello, my name is Keegan and I'm a Room 8 enviro agent. Each class at Melville Intermediate class has two Enviromental Agents. Today I'm going to tell you about the Worm Baths. With the worm baths people in this school (not just the students the adults too!). People put their fruit and tea bags in their classrooms yellow bucket - but do not put citrus in! Two people from one class go around the school putting the other classes food in thier yellow bins. Then they go to the gardens and put the food in the worm baths. These are old baths that are in the school garden. The food is put in the baths and the worms eat them and produce manure. Then they get the green buckets under the worm baths and put the manure away for selling. The enviro agents are trying to get the silver award for our school for this year.

Melville Intermediate - Rocky Mountain TIE

We're always very pleased when this site gets a mention around the world and we've started to have some visitors coming through "Rocky Mountain Technology in Education". A conference has just been held in Colorado in the United States of America where they've had a session on blogging. There are some suggested sites to look at for you before you create your own site and Melville Intermediate is one of them. The link to this page is here.

The Leo club at Sir Edmund Hillary’s school made them for us. We had to get in to groups of five and then we were off looking around the school. We all wonted to go toilet so they showed us where the toilets where and we went. Then it was time to go so we sad go bye and then off we went back to school when we got there the time was 3:20 so we all had to get off really fast so the bus people got to go home. We got to go straight home witch was really fun. At the end of the day it was a fun trip in the end.

Melville Intermediate - Hip Hop Group

On Sunday we went to a dance studio. It was called 'Born to Dance'. When we got there I saw Destyn who was dancing outside in the cold. When the group went into the studio we got straight into it. We did our warm ups then we started. Half way through me and Destyn made up some new moves and learnt some too. There was a very cool bit that I liked when I flipped Asrya over my back. About five minutes before we finished they told the parents to come inside. The parents were blown away with our performance! By Cleveland, Room 8.

Melville Intermediate - Museum SlideShow

Melville Intermediate - Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci Trip (Rooms 12 & 5)

On Friday 19th June, Rooms 5 and 12 went to the Waikato Museum to see the Leonardo exhibition.

It was fantastic!!. There were models of Leonardo’s war machines, flight machines and many other things invented by him. Some of the war machines were gruesome, such as the reaper which was pulled by a horse and chopped people in half as it went. Leonardo also invented the first tank which had guns all round it. Later in life Leonardo said he hated war.
We learned that Leonardo was a ‘Polymath’ – that is, he was able to show his genius in many areas.

He was an architect, an artist, a mathematician and much more.

These are some of his inventions
· A parachute · The tank · Diving suit · A car · Hanglider

And all of this he did 500 years ago. When we were at the exhibition we were shown clips of Leonardo’s machines being made recently and put to the test. They all worked. The trip to Leonardo da Vinci’s machines was awesome, inspiring and very, very interesting.

Melville Intermediate- Leo Club Trip to Auckland.

On Tuesday 16 of June the Leo Club went to Auckland to meet Sir Edmund Hillary Middle School Leo Club. When we got there we went to the music room. After we had something to eat the Leo Club went in to the gym the other school gave us Laes. When we sat down and they gave us such a good welcome after they finished the Leo club sang”I am yours”. After the Leo club had finished their song then other school sang us another song. When it was over the Sir Edmund Hillary Leo club showed us around. After we got shown around we went back into the gym. The school told us how they do their Leo club. When they were doing it we got to have some popcorn. When they finished we got some lunch. We had some sausages and a drink to go with it. After we had finished lunch we got back on the bus and then all the kids sat down laughing and talking. We had such a good time. We learnt that we could raise lots of money with different fund raises. By the time we got back to school it was 3:20pm so we could go straight home.

Melville Intermediate - Well Done Mr Lamsheds Class

Earlier this year as followers of this blog will know, we were watching closely the work of Mr Lamsheds Boys Class at Hackham East School in Adelaide, Australia. They had entered a Boys Haka in the Adelaide Arts Festival. We filmed two videos to help them out with their performance of the Haka and also gave them some tips. Just as they'd been waiting anxiously in Australia for news of whether they made the final performance (in front of 1,500 people no less!) so we were waiting at this end, well yesterday the letter arrived that they had been waiting for and they are successful in and performing on September 15th!

Everyone in Room 8 would like to give our warmest congratulations to Mr Lamshed and his Boys for their amazing efforts with this, and we will be wishing them all the best for September the 15th!

Melville Intermediate- Boys Rugby Recount 2

On Tuesday 16th June MIS went to Matamata to play rugby there. First we had to get into our jacket and shorts. We travelled in Liams car. It was me, William and Liam. We left on the road and the other Boys went in the others cars. When we got there the boys went into the changing sheds then we went back out and our first game was at 10:00am. Melville vs. Tokoroa Intermediate. The boys went onto the field to play. We played for ages and we had a draw with Tokoroa 5-5. The next game was at 11:00am against Cambridge Intermediate in the rain. It was a very hard game and the score was 12 to Cambrige and 0 to Melville. The third game was against Fairfield Intermediate. We had a good game against them but it was hard because we lost to them, 0-5. We had a final game against Morrinsville. After that we had a little feed then we walked back to the cars and we went back to Melville. When we got back we took off our jackets and waited for the bell to ring. When we went home I was happy to be at home because I got a shower to wash off all the mud then after that I had a feed and cleaned my boots. I had a little sleep and thats the end of my story.
